Was I the only one who thought it was sad that Mariah Carey remade "I Still Believe"; a song for which she was a back up singer for the original by Brenda K. Star? When I heard that, I just kept thinking, "had she planned this all along?"
Where has all the creativity gone?
No, I am not one of those women who is looking at this next generation's contributions to the worlds of music, film, and television and think "that's all garbage".
But, so many movies, songs, just every thing is being redone, remade, refilmed... are we incapable of writing anything original anymore?
And when we do actually come up with a movie that's good and shows creative thinking, we turn it into a trilogy. Is there really a need?
And how many times do I need to watch the same jokes and the same themes get repeated throughout every, single show/sitcom? How many stories about the Ghost of Christmas Future need to be done? Or the theme from "It's a Wonderful Life"?
There's nothing worse to me than going to see a movie and having the thought "they stole this from Star Wars".
Not that people shouldn't attain inspiration from the works of the past. But I find that we are sticking too far in the past and trying to pass it off as modern creativity.

I don't think all remakes ( in film) are bad. Some are good. Others...completely pointless. Why remake movies nobody liked when they were originals?
I see too many redundant songs. There are so many songs that sound exactly the same. It's like hearing "twinkle twinkle little star" and the ABC's song back to back. (sing them if you don't believe me).
Songs are often remaid too. Like "Time After Time". I can't tell if I've ever heard the original because I've only heard FOUR DIFfERENT VERSIONS. How nuts is that?! Find another song people!
In some cases, remakes are better than the originals; especially with growing technology and graphics.
I didn't mean to imply that they were always worse.
Only that it seems sad; the people we attribute to having creative minds (songwriters, movie writers, etc.) seem to be lacking the creativity that got them their jobs.
Many times, they aren't even putting a fresh perspective into the ideas they are remaking; just retelling them with newer graphics.

Really, in the past few years there has been a lot of remakes and I for one have the same feeling, I'm sick of it. I could come up with lyrics, put me on stage. That's my attitude at least, I'm glad someone could put it into words!
