It's pretty easy to tell that America has a love affair with speed (not the drug, just getting things done quickly). Just take a look around for evidence we have fast-access computers, faster than ever travel, and you can't forget the millions that devote certain days to the Indiana 500 and the Daytona 500. But the newest result from our love affair with getting things done quickly is speed-dating.
I can't say that I've had this experience myself, but some of my friends have. Many said that they were just doing it because they were curious and many others said that they were looking for a serious relationship. I don't know how effective e-dating and speed dating are in finding that special someone, but I guess I'm old fashioned and prefer "old school dating". Speed dating makes finding a friend or future mate seem like a chore such as "oh, I'll go pick-up my future husband or wife on my lunch break after I get the dry cleaning." It also seems like a competition for who can find a compatible person the fastest. However, speed dating has become very popular and even my college campus has multiple speed dating services such as fraternity/sorority speed dating, Catholic speed dating, and Jewish speed dating. Maybe it really is an effective way to find someone, I don't know, I guess I'm just a skeptic. If you have any experiences and would like to convince me otherwise, feel free to blog or comment.

Hey! I just finished a blog about speed dating, which has also become popular at my college as well. I found it ironic that religious groups on campus would support speed dating, but anyways, what I found even more odd was the fact that it worked! Although two people did not engage in a relationship at the speed dating event itself, the two people that were coordinators of the event (they had never met until they were told to carry out the event together) ended up dating because of their planning of the event. I guess it does have its advantages though, I got to meet a lot of people I passed by every day. At least now we are on a first name basis instead of an awkward stare at the ground whenever we pass by one another.
