"Insanity in individuals is something rare--but in nations, parties, groups, and epochs, it is the rule." -- Friedrich Nietzsche
War, politics, terrorism, 'homeland security', ignorance, hatred, bigotry, conservatism, religious zealotry, superficiality, pop culture, gossip...
No sane person could look around with full intellectual honesty and claim that we live in an enlightened society. This by no means implies that the individual members are crazy, but that the sum of the interactions of the individuals makes an obscene mess. Let's start with the most prevalent issue recently: the elections.
Firstly, it's obscene to attempt to polarize the populous with two political parties. Democrats have very little to do with democracy and Republicans have very little to do with a republic. These names are almost entirely arbitrary, so let's just use the colors: blue and red. We've got a blue team and a red team.. much like Halo. These teams fight with each other and internally with themselves in some bizarre form of politicking. Nothing is said. Nothing is accomplished. A politician is a hot-air generator that might just be a normal person who has been trained to speak only out of the ass and never say anything specifically.
Instead of focusing on true issues, or looking out for the best interests of the country (or, heaven forbid! the world), politicians focus on tearing their party members down to eliminate competition and try to ruin the name of the other. 'Winning' means stepping out of the shit-slinging arena smelling less bad than the other. How can we allow this? How could our country come to this? Not to mention, the presidency is a joke of an office. There's no need for this sort of authority figure in a nation of people capable of thinking and acting in their own best interest. Hopefully the day comes where we all grow up and step out of the sandbox.
Why is it that countries even exist anymore? They're increasingly irrelevant. As the world shrinks in size, as travel gets more rapid, and communication more instantaneous, it becomes more and more important to identify as members of the human race than members of warring, independent countries. There's no sense in attempting to assert domination. Especially with the state of weapons we've developed. Our scientific ability has rapidly out grown our maturity. Genetic engineering can create viruses/bacteria which could wipe out the majority of life on earth. It only takes a couple of nuclear weapons to destroy the ecosystem which we rely upon. All of these effects are the push of a button away.
We're all human. What is with this insanity? This collective paranoia and greed? Is it so hard to see that, if united, our problems would disappear, and our effectiveness as a species would increase astronomically. Just imagine what the billions of dollars wasted in Iraq could be used for... there wouldn't be American soldiers dying. The money could be used to educate the world, to bring nations out of poverty, to assure that no human on this planet is forced to go a day without food, water, shelter, warmth, comfort, or any of these other basic human necessities and individual rights. Greed is absolutely illogical.
If united, with the great minds of the world working on solutions to real problems, versus designing weapons and *creating* problems, there's no reason to think that we couldn't have a viable solution presented very quick for colonization of Mars or the moon. It is humanity's destiny to explore... both the limits of the individual, the species, and the universe itself. Our destiny is not petty squabbling, mass murder, or willful ignorance. These are abominations to our abilities. Whether one believes in God or not is immaterial... humanity is real, and a belief in humanity is, in essence a belief in God. Especially if one believes that humanity was created in God's image. If God is a creator and we were created in his image, we are heirs to the legacy of this creator. We need a new religion. A religion to unite, rather than divide. Let individuals believe what they will, enjoy whichever mythologies they will. But there needs to be a cause. A Human Agenda.
Learning and discovering is how we grow. The more we know about the world around us, the world within us, and the world beyond us, the better we're able to function as a sentient species. It's not beneficial to us to divide ourselves based on race, religion, sexual orientation, physical ability, mental prowess, gender, or even species. If there is one lesson that has been passed down since people were able to communicate, it is of the inseparable interconnectedness of the universe. The more we learn about ecosystems and impacts of our actions, the better we're able to make true decisions. It's our role to be curators of the universe. To seek out the unknown and understand the mystical. However, whatever it is that we learn, whether its physical, biological, psychological, chemical, spiritual, or any other form of knowledge, it's our sacred duty to use this learning for the betterment of all things which could benefit.
If we learn how things grow and how life works, it's our duty to enhance the process. Yes, Nature has given us a template and She has figured out the general idea through billions of years of trial and error, but that in no way means that nothing can be gained by humanity's perspective and influence. It started with selective breeding and it's continuing through genetic engineering. If we can understand the workings of life, we can guarantee that nobody ever starves. If we can understand the workings of life, even death begins to lose its hold on the world.
There are things on the horizon which lie beyond our wildest dreams. There are even things which lie beyond those. The whole journey of discovery is exhilarating and fascinating. And this path is necessary for any path to exist. So who the fuck cares whether or not Brittney got drunk last night? Let her do as she pleases. There are far, far more important things to focus on. The news is currently a disservice, but this is because of what people expect to consume. Ratings are tied to interest. Content is influenced by demand. Everyone has a role. We're all a piece of the puzzle.

I agree with you on your blog. The people running for presidency are fighting each other instead of tryingto fight for our country. Obama and Hillary seem to always be at it here and there. Why can't they say or do nice things to each other? Instead they want to act like little kids and back talk each other. McCain wants to act like the perfect president, but when he says something wrong , he blames everyone else for his mistakes.Yes we all need to work together and make this earth better but at the same time there is so many haters and lazy people...and skeptics.......
Please read my lastest blog and rate it. If you leave a comment great . If you don't thats ok. But at least rate it please. Thanks. I even provided the link.
