Blog to work in China?

Being my first post, I feel the need to explain why I chose to sign up for an account here. In less than nine days I start my new life in a new country. This would generally not faze me much, other than I will be unable to use my normal account at LiveJournal to post for my friends and family to see that I'm indeed still alive.

The reason for this is China's "Golden Shield Project". I did a Google search on it and found out that nearly all blogging sites are blocked. As a last resort I have an MSN account I could use, but as I was searching for alternatives, I came across this site. It sounds like this is a place that I could actually fit in at, so I signed up.

If this site works in China, I shall continue to blog and share my experiences from my first teaching job to the lack of personal freedom allowed in China. Cross your fingers in hopes that I'll be able to join you guys for more than just a couple of days!

By the way, if anyone here knows of the rules on the Golden Shield Project (also found under Chinese firewall on Google), please let me know. I would appreciate any feedback regarding this subject, whether it is well wishes on getting through the lack of blogging or a way around it. Thanks!

Thats communism for you a little too controlling of their citizens. But I guess Blogs are a good thing for them to keep blocked a lot of people who thing revolutionary would be able to express their anti-communist views which would be bad for the country.

They only really fear political and religious revolutions, I think. I'm also trying to figure out what else to avoid while I'm in China. After all, I'll be getting paid to teach English, not start a war.

While I don't intend to talk about politics, I am naturally curious, so I'm afraid I'll get in trouble for just asking how things work. Same with religion, especially Buddhism since I found it fascinating. With all the stuff that is going on, I can't see that as a good thing to want to satisfy my curiosity about.
