I HATE HIGH SCHOOL RUMORS!!!!

About three months ago, a young man was hit by a car in my school. While this young man was in the hospital fighting for his life, rumors were flying rampid amongst everybody. One day, he was going to be ok. The next, he had already died. High school rumors flying around did nothing to help this young man's fight. I felt as though I couldn't even believe his friends, because one would tell me one thing, and another would tell me something totally opposite. Eventually, this young man passed away, with absolutely NO help from anyone spreading rumors about him. RIP Anthony- Feb. 10, 2008
About a month ago, I apparently started a rumor about someone dating someone else. I don't know who has time to sit at home and come up with ways to spread rumors, but I sure don't. I have better things to do with my time than to make up rumors, I have better things to do with my time than to keep spreading rumors.
In frustration, I talked to my neighbor. She said that it doesn't even get better as you get older and out into the workfield.
When is this going to stop? When are people going to stop getting their kicks and giggles from spreadin rumors? When can everybody just grow up?

Some rumors are accidental. Have you ever played the game "telephone"? That would answer why. A message is passed from person to person, and each time it changes slightly due to storytelling style or misheard words. Eventually the end product is completely different and nobody knows why.

Other rumors, mean rumors, are completely unacceptable. Those would be the intentional ones fabricated to destroy someone's reputation. In the real world it's called slander when spoken or libel in print.

Also, some rumors are spread "by you" because people don't want to get caught saying stuff about people they're "friends" with, or because they want someone to beat you up. I've had it done to me before - I'm over it. Luckily, the girl whom I "wanted to fight", according to rumor, knew me better than that, and knew that I'd definitely tell her to her face, and not through other people.

I think it gets better as you get older. I haven't had nearly as many problems with rumours in adulthood as I did back in my high school days.
