Religion Vs. Me

SAME SEX MARRIAGE

Now for those of you who dont already know where i stand...I am 100% FOR same sex marraige. For me its really the only choice. Now before i get everyone all upset. Let me explain. You see a friend of mine told me once that in clearly stated in the bible that a marriage is only to be a MAN and a WOMEN. Now my question is....

What ever happened to seperation of church and state?

And for those of you who dont know what separation of church and state is...ill define it for you.
Separation of church and state: the separation of religion and government mandated under the establishment clause and the free exercise clause of the U.S. Constitution that forbids governmental establishment or preference of a religion and that preserves religious freedom from governmental intrusion.

Alright now with that being explained....what happened? Did we as Americans forget that? If the christian bible has those specific restrictions, than thats fine. But why should those of us non-christians fall victim to those beliefs. Of an even better question. Why are we, as citizens, allowing the government to base our civil rights on religious beliefs, in specifically those of Christians.

And here's a question for those who may know more about religion than I do. Where exactly do christians draw the line when it comes to...
"Thou shall not judge"
Because it seems to me that this commandment alone is contradicting to the rest of the bible. Or am I the one whos confused?

I really dont see what the big deal is.
Man with Woman
Man with Man
Woman with Woman Isn't it all still Love?

""Thou shall not judge""
-Well, that isn't actually one of the 10 Commandments. But I do believe that nobody has the right to judge another person. They can lead them in the right direction, but I hate when certain Christians go around telling everyone they're going to Hell if they don't act a certain way. We Christians need to follow in Jesus CHrist's example. He never judged anyone. And if anyone could judge someone, it would be Him since He never sinned. But like He said, "Let he who has no sins cast the first stone." Obviously everyone besides Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary are sinners, so we are not fit to judge anyone.

"Isn't it all still Love?"
-It's love, but not all love is good. Some love is just a temptation. That's what homosexual sex is. It's a temptation that needs to be controlled. Just like sexual urges need to be controlled for any un-married heterosexual, which means no masturbation, or premarital sex.

"It's love, but not all love is good."
Your right not all love is good. Sometimes your partner beats you. Sometimes your partner will abuse you mentally. This is not good love.

But in a relationship that is beneficial to BOTH individuals why does who this involves matter to you, to the guy down the street, or to the government? The answer: it doesn't.

You can choose to pretend that masturbations is bad -- it isn't and you won't go blind from masturbating daily -- or that premarital sex is bad -- it isn't either and have you ever considered that this rule is outdated by our preventative measures and technology? And science has confirmed that both masturbation and sex are HEALTHY for the participating individual -- the lack of can be harmful.

-You're right. Who does it matter to, though? GOD. The one who will ultimately decide everyone's fate.

-I didn't say masturbation or sex were unhealthy. But that doesn't mean they're good. Oh, and they do have health risks: STDs, pregnancy, AIDS, etc. They're temptations that need to be controlled.

-You're right. Who does it matter to, though? GOD. The one who will ultimately decide everyone's fate.

But for those of us who don't believe in god, you still expect us to follow his rules? Please tell me where the bible bans masturbation.

If masturbation and sex are healthy, what makes them bad? Every health risk you mention is 100% preventable -- so what is you reason now? Why are masturbation and premarital sex bad? There is NO scientific proof that claims this. Other than an outdated book, where do you get your information?

For those of you that don't believe in God, no I don't expect you to follow his rules, but masturbation is still unneccessary.

My reasons for not doing it are based on my faith. The CCC teaches that masturbation is a disordered action. "The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose."

Then riddle me this -- why do I have a clitoris? It's ONLY function is pleasure.

peppermintfrost's picture

God intended sex to be pleasurable. He wants couples to strengthen their marital bond and be able to procreate while feeling pleasure. But we are not meant to abuse that gift of God.

What constitutes abuse? Where does it say that we are only to have sex for procreation?

Wow. No masturbation or unmarried sex because why? It doesn't hurt anyone so why do you care?

peppermintfrost's picture

Actually, it does hurt people both emotionally and physically (STDs, pregnancy).

Why do I care? Because I want more people to find God and realize His will and stop ruining their lives and living sinful lives.

A temptation that needs to be controlled? Says who? No masturbation? You have to be kidding me. There is nothing the matter with sexual temptation. As a matter of fact, its leads to reproduction. And there is no reason why two people have to be married for this to happen. Of course it helps with the stability of child care, but it is not necessary. Those are just social norms (outdated ones at that). And social norms do nothing but limit individuality and free choice.

good quote! I will have to use that one, thanks :)

Here's one for you...

Seperation of church and state is what America is supposed to be but that is not always the case.

"Some love is just a temptation"
whos the judge? who is the all mighty that says what love is tempation and what love isnt?

"Why do I care? Because I want more people to find God and realize His will and stop ruining their lives and living sinful lives."
You previously said that we shouldnt judge...but arent you judging by assuming that homosexuals are "ruining their lives." I know plenty of homosexuals who live better happier lives than those of christians following the word of the Lord.

"I know plenty of homosexuals who live better happier lives than those of christians following the word of the Lord."
-And I know Christian homosexuals who know that their homosexuality is just a cross that they have to bear, like Christ. They love Him fully and are willing to live chaste lives in the pursuit of reaching Heaven once they die.

-I'm not judging. I'm not saying that I hate the homosexuals and that they're all going to Hell. I'm saying that the act of homosexual sex (as well as masturbation & premarital sex) is immoral and against God.

Please explain to me why masturbation and premarital sex is immoral. And if you could, refrain from using God or referencing the Bible in your explanation, because I follow neither.

peppermintfrost's picture

My reasons as to why they are immoral are majorly based on God' will.

Other than that, I believe they're temptations that need to be controlled. If you're hungry you shouldn't just go out and get french fries/ice cream/fast food/etc. You need to control yourself and eat healthy food. If you're tired and would rather go to sleep than go to work or school, you need to control yourself and do the right thing and go to work or school. If you have the desire to masturbate, you need to control those urges. Yes, there will always been natural human desires but that does not mean they are good. Sex is a beautiful, sacred occurrance. It should not be done with so little thought. I don't believe that anyone actually needs to masturbate. It's just a temptation that each individual person has the power to control.

I don't believe that anyone actually needs to masturbate.

-Why? Because you don't masturbate, based on your sex drive or lack thereof? Who are you to decide what another needs?

peppermintfrost's picture

Would you die if you didn't masturbate? No. Essential needs are food, water, shelter, air, clothing, etc. Most other things are not essential to sustain life, just like masturbation.

You forgot love -- including the love of ones' self. We must love ourselves, at least a little, to care enough to live life. Masturbation is a great example of self love. Sure we wouldn't IMMEDIATELY croak without it, but long term build up could be quite detrimental.

For example...Regular ejaculation reduces prostate cancer risk

How ejaculation helps reduce prostate cancer
An epidemiological study of 30,000 American men by Michael Leitzman, a cancer researcher at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, has found that men who enjoy an active sex life do not risk prostate cancer in later life.

There has been a suggested link with greater sexual activity and increased incidents of prostate cancer in previous scientific data because of the link with the male hormone testosterone and its effect on promoting cancer cell growth.

Leitzmann's findings were that men who ejaculate between 13 and 20 times a month had a 14% lower risk of prostate cancer that men who ejaculated on average, between 4 and 7 times a month for most of their adult life. Men who ejaculated upwards of 21 times a month had a 33% lower lifetime risk of prostate cancer than the baseline group.

So without a marriage partner early in life, young boys should masturbate to decrease their risk of prostate cancer. Thus not masturbating creates a huge risk of severe illness (cancer) and possible death. So yeah, you can die from not masturbating.
