This has to do with Katrina, I know that a lot of people think that the president can just snap his fingers and make things happen and these are the people who dont know the laws of the constitution. Has anyone heard of states rights, or the fact that the central government has very little power over states issues even in this situation. Did anyone listen to the news and wonder why alabama and missisippi were not mentioned as much as New Orleans? hum lets think... well the governors of those states allowed troops and supplys to come in before the storm and therefore made it easier on the government to help the state. Unfortunatly New orleans government did not. Did you also know that the leveys in New Orleans were over a 100 years old and were supposed to be replaced and if they had been then the damage would have been almost half as bad. Once again thats the states responsibility!!!! Our central government was not created to take care of every problem that the states are responsible for. So although many might think that the president has magical powers they dont. And everything takes time, in a crisis situation like katrina there are many things that a president has to think about and many channels that he just cant pass through. One last thought, about the rebuilding issue, when a place is flooded and there is a million things in the water it takes time to clean up and although yes it is really important to rebuild the whole country cant stop to do it, the government is not responsible to help every citizen that has a house get torn down in tornado alley or by hurricanes in florida, so believe you me this is not the first time people have been put out by natural disasters and it wont be the last. the government cannot be responsible for the choice that people make. All of New Orleans is below sea level and they still didnt worry about what might happen if a storm came, they were warned and new of the risks so why should the government really have to do anything, the state and the people should like everyother time houses get knocked down by natural disasters.
