Yet again Bush has asked to keep taxes low. Which is a smart idea. In order for America to have a strong economy, we must have a middle calss that has a strong spending power.
If we overtax people they tend to stay inside and spend nothing. Yes you may say that is the only way to solve the national debt, but it isn't. Raising taxes will only give the government more oppurtunities to spend more money. If you haven't noticed, when we give government more money, they spend more than they give them. No matter what, that will happen.
What we need is a government committed to frugal financial practices. I think that will be the only way for the deficeit to disappear.
Also to encourage enterprise, we need to keep taxes low on small and large buisnesses. This will enable them to create more jobs and increase production. We need to keep taxes low.
Everybody, when discussing America's economy, always points to the huge deficit. How do we fix it? I ask: do we need to?
We've been running a deficit for centuries (correct me if I'm wrong there, but I think the last time we didn't owe money was still in the 1700's. Jefferson, was it?), and so far so good. While the deficit seems huge to individuals, compare it to that of other industrialized nations. Ours is bigger, but then, so is our country. Per capita we're doing pretty well.
My point is this: our economy has been pretty stable, and the deficit doesn't seem to be doing any damage. While it's probably not the best to have that kind of deficit, I think we're overreacting to it. Couldn't we make just a few cutbacks, minor changes?
Not that I'm challenging your stance on taxes. I like low taxes (only because I have to pay them). Sad, isn't it? Personal interest usually trumps interest in your country.

We did have a brief period in our history after the Civil War when we did not have a defeceit. We used this surplus we had to give veterans benifits after the Civil War.

That's like saying, "well, I'm already in debt why bother trying to get out?" It's for the surplus. Instead of paying off what we owe and trying to get out of the red we make it deeper. That's like maxing out 3 credit cards and getting two more credit cards. If we weren't in debt we could do more for the country. Bush blew this for us. Plain and simple.
The deficeit is not all to blame on Bush. Many before hime helped the deficeit out greatly. When he got in to office the debt was about six trillion dollars, The eight trillion dollar debt is not all form him. Anyways, what's your solution to it?
