The pride and curse of small business ownership

I have been running my own small business for about a year now and I have been evaluating how things have progressed as of late.

I have a much better understanding of the business I am in and how difficult it is. I do not envy the job director of preschools or what principals have to go throw. It is a lot of headaches and politics. By politics I mean dealing with the government for licenses.

Its been a challenge in a positive way to make my own money. Its been difficult dealing with challenging personalities of other people and figuring out what is in the best interest for you and your business.

Being a small business has its downsides. Because of small clientele size, I am unable to immediately hire staff. As sole proprietor I have been, the director, the teacher, the health nurse, the cook, the maid, and the assistant all in one. I now have it down to a science how everything should run.

None of this would have been possible without the support of my family. Because of the initial startup it has damaged my credit but I know I can change that once things stabilize.
It has taken me a year to find the right makeup of families and children but I think I finally have it.

The most important element in any small business venture is to remember your own downtime. Remember to take care of yourself and your health or you cannot help anyone else. It would be very difficult for me to quit now because I have four families and children who are depending on me. I have learned to take the good and the bad one day at a time.

We're all learning. Me, the children and the parents.

Nice post. I wish you the best of luck with your business in the future.

I'm a small business owner too. I do freelance writing to help pay the tuition bills, and it's worked out fine for me so far. The challenges are pretty great - always worrying about getting work done on time, pleasing clients, ect. It's actually helpful to have a small, loyal client base because it's easier to meet everyone's needs.

Good luck with your business!

Hi

I would have to agree.

I dream about expanding all the time but then I think about ALL THE PARENTS I would have to deal with.....*eye roll*

If I had a staffer to take care of the teaching I could deal with the directorship issues
that's what I would prefer ideally
