Conservation

We are seeing the effects of an energy crisis that is soon to come if we do not change anything..  The thing is there are so many ways we can change for the better, conservation for example.

"Electrcity demand could be cut by 19 percent nationally by 2025 with an investment of $137 billion in energy efficiency, according to a report by a Michigan research outfit." Energybiz Magazine

"At the same time utilities plan to build more than 150 coal-fired generating plants in the next decade, according to the Detroit Free Press." Energybiz Magazine

$137 billion dollars is nothing next to what we have spent in Iraq and it would help the environment to a great extent not to mention keep down the prices of gas and electricity.

The fact is people are too content with just spending and building more and more.  That will not work for every much longer and eventually the US will fall and fall very hard if that idea is kept in practice.

Very true. The problem is that people don't want to face the realities or to be held accountable for their share in creating the mess. They want the cute cars, fancy houses, etc, etc, etc and it's not their problem if the environment suffers because of it and it's definitely not their problem if energy is in short supply and we're not doing enough to find alternatives. People don't want to face that it's not just the environment that is suffering and that it's going to get worse. I know I feel bad every time I drive my Ford Explorer and am still coming to terms with the fact that I bought it in the first place. I wanted a hybrid, but am no where close to affording that. My husband is 6'8", and my sister has 2 babies in car seats (one of which is hooked up to a ventilator, a pulse-ox machine, and a feeding pump at all times). We needed something big, but we're cutting energy other ways. It's not that hard to do, and it's not an inconvience. I think it would go a long way if everyone would do the same thing... keep lights on in the house a lot? Fine, drive a smaller car. Drive a big car? Fine, get a low flow shower head, use energy effiecient appliances and light bulbs, etc. It won't solve the entire problem, but it can help... in more ways than one.

I agree people dont have to do much, using the washer machine at night and turning off the lights when they leave the room, even turning of the tv when you are done watching and not keeping it on because you like having noise in your house. There are so many simple things that can be done but either people don't know what to do (because of lack of media coverage) or people just don't care which is the case where I live. I live in San Diego, my house actually borders the richest city in the US possibly the world. I know kids that are one their fourth Mercades because they crashed the first three but they don't care because they will just get a new one. People just don't have an understanding of the real world becasue they are so content just living in their own little community and being uninformed.
