Teacher Unions believe it or not have more power than Unions of companies. Compare them to the other Unions, like those involved in retail stores and the differences are amazing. The rhetoric is even the same. Where other Unions struggle to hold control over their benefits, Teacher Unions are streamlining their jobs. By streamlining I mean making nearly impossible to fire them, or to hold them accountable for anything. If they teach you nothing, they cant be held accountable, they could care less (its up to the teacher) As long as students pass their standardized tests its ok. Standardized tests take little skill to pass, some states don’t even require them anymore. This thinking has made teaching basically one of the most stable jobs available. Little threat of new workers taking your job, as while as little risk involved.
Teachers also don’t have to worry about competition because of the Union either. Unions have the special interests area covered. Any candidate that dares use the word ‘reform’ will face them. They will activate all their noise machine and leave the candidate in bad shape. It doesn’t even matter what type of reform takes place take any amount of tax money away from them and they will dedicate themselves to character assassination. It happens all the time. Teachers pay dues and that money goes to candidates they choose and to batter candidates they disagree with. Teachers Unions are also the only Union that has managed to perfect the art of monopolizing their market.
By removing competition they have nearly guaranteed their success. Success being a stable job. Makes you wonder if this was any other market would anyone allow such an monopoly? I would doubt it with a few exception. Teachers have no choice but to accept the Union either. The idea of voluntary enrollment is not a favorable concept. If you don’t join you lose your job.
Unions aren’t bad. They are there for the workers themselves and have to be there to protect them. Business can take advantage of their workers and it is good for them to protect their benefits but when the Union holds complete control of a business and does it best make the job easier for itself regardless of the end product there is a problem. Particularly when this end product is a human mind. Teachers Unions shouldn’t be considered Unions in reality they should be considered a streamlined party/concept similar to a segment of a political group similar to the far-right or to the far-left.
