I know this might upset some people. This is my opinion and I am not trying to push them onto anyone else. I wrote this last year.
I am have a problem will Thanksgiving. It was made aware to me by a friend that we celebrate this day to give thanks. Thanks for what?
First the history of Thanksgiving. The first Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1621. We invited the Indians. George Washington announced that Thanksgiving would be held on Thursday the 26th of November. President Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a Federal holiday as a "prayerful day of Thanksgiving" on the last Thursday in November. President Franklin D. Roosevelt set the date for Thanksgiving to the fourth Thursday of November in 1939 (approved by Congress in 1941). Many workers (78% in 2007) are given both Thanksgiving and the day after as paid holidays, and others with leave benefits are allowed to take a vacation day. The Thanksgiving holiday was established as a national day of giving thanks and praise to God.
Ok now the problem I have with Thanksgiving. First early Americans invited the Indiana to eat with us for helping us and not killing us. Than what do ancestor do next. They take there land, shot some of the animals and waste the meat, and make some animals instinct. Than they put the Indians on reservation and tell them to stay there.
Before Lincoln fought for slavery we put black people into slavery. Now we have a problem with immigrates and we are all immigrates unless you are Indiana.
We can't use the word God in school, state or government. This country was founded on God. Money we use say it and government builds have it on God on the and some have the ten commandants on them. 78% of Americans get a paid holiday, mostly government and State workers and teachers, but if it was founded on God than how is this? Must be a Catch 22. Don't say God but take this Holiday off same with Christmas.
This country is sort of screwed up. How are we suppose to be thankful. We stuff our face with food and sit back and watch football. People are starving in America and have no homes but yet we help out other countries. People are going overseas and fighting in a war that I think is pointless and some will never come home alive. Gas price are threw the roof. And in some place there is no to work there. This sadden my heart. I do thank God for my friends and my families and everyone that is wiling to serve this country, but Thanksgiving just became my least favorite holiday. It use to be my favorite. I am glad in this country I can say what I feel.
