The article “Child flu deaths have schools scared” written by Kimberly Ross explains how the flu is killing children who are normally considered healthy. Normal kids who shouldn’t die from a common disease. The death toll this flu season is rapidly increasing and has parents and schools alike quite concerned. In North Carolina some schools even closed because of all the symptoms and death. One school closed “After at least 20 percent of their total 541 students fell ill, school system spokeswoman Carol Evans said.” It has people scared. 36,000 people die from the flu each year in the USA.
The article “Iraq Death Toll ‘Soared-post War’” from BBC news displays the rising death toll in Iraq. Unofficial estimates of the total civilian death toll in Iraq have ranged anywhere from10,000 to 37,000.“Violence accounted for most of the excess deaths and air strikes from coalition forces accounted for most of the violent deaths" the article stated. The two articles are very different yet if you look you can find similarities in them.
In both articles the every day civilians are facing death. It is a harsh reality that we have to face. It seems that all these deaths could have been avoided all together with the technologies and the intelligence that we have today. The international article about Iraq is all about deaths that resulted from violence and conflict between people. In contrast the national article about the flu is a virus that is sweeping the nation, not caused by anybody, group, or problem.
