Global warming vs. CLimate change

So government officials have decided to change the name of the phenomena the Earth is currently expiriencing from 'Global Warming' to Global Climate Change. Yes, the world's climate is changing, and guess what?! Scientists now have evidence that we have cause this! Is this something new? Not really...

The name global warming may not be an apt name anymore due to the fact that warming trends have caused ice to melt, shift the currents in the world's ocean and thereby shift climates all over the globe. However, I fel that the name 'global climate change' feels a little less urgent then global warming. Perhaps my reasons for this are because I grew up with the terms global warming, but somehow, I don't think that's quite it.

So, the question is, now that the issue is out, officially, what is the US governmnt going to do about it? Are they going to join the ranks of other progressive nations and up their environmental standards? Probably not any time soon. However, even if THEY aren't doing anything, that doesn't mean you shouldn't.

There are any small things that you can do to help the environment in general, and specifically, help reverse the effects of global warming/ climate change. Compact flourescent lightbulbs (CFL's) require less wattage to produce lust as much light. They're available at Home depot, most likely lowe's as well as other hardware stores. The upfront cost of these bulbs IS more than regular incandescent, but they last MUCH longer and therefore you will hae to replace them less. Also, these bulbs pull less power, reducing your energy costs. So you see, helping the envionment can help you as well. That may be selfish, but it is also realistic.

Other things you can do: plant a tree, carpool, click once a day at the Rainforest Site ( http://www.therainforestsite.com/clickToGive/home.faces?siteId=4 ), purchase energy star appliances, ride a bike, recycle, buy green products, and research the products that you DO buy to make sure they are environmetally friendly. You are not limited to these options, with a little bit of research, you can find millions of other ways to make a difference!

I saw this gr8 commercial on a PBS channel and it showed a man in I'd say his early thirties saying something like "studies show that Global warming wont really affect me in my life time" and then he steps away and you see this little girl that was standing directly behind him and you realize that she's on train tracks and you then see the train heading directly towards the little girl. I think it's really sad that the generations ahead of us dont see this as their problem because they'll be long dead b4 this becomes a 'serious' problem; that is a disgustingly selfish attitude. Personally I hope I can help in whatever ways possible even if Global Warming/Climate Change is going to affect people hundreds of years from now and not me.

Unfortunately, our generation IS being affected RIGHT NOW. 2006 was ranked number 1 in the top 10 hottest years for average temperature. NC expirienced 70 degree weather all throught november and december and winter finally decided to start about a week into January.

Where do you get the rankings from, just out of curiosity?

I heard it reported on the radio at the first of the year. The station was either 99.5, or 98.7, both piedmont NC based stations. But here is a link to a report: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/01/070110124403.htm

I agree that humans are causing part of global warming. But to say that we're causing it entirely by pollution is quite frankly bull. Wouldn't the Industrial Revolution have caused a higher number of pollutants? Factories back then were much more inefficient (burning coal) and emitted countless more pounds of carbon dioxide, monoxide and carbon into the air. How did that effect greenhouse gases?
Also, the earth is a marvelous thing. We came out of the latest ice age 18,000 years ago. The earth precesses on its axis (wobbles back and forth like a top) every 26,000 years. Seasons are caused by the tilt of the earth's axis, so by tilting slightly further, would that not affect temperatures on the globe? Why has the Midwest seen the longest cold snap it has in decades? Record lows/highs were set throughout the region. I have a feeling there's more going on here than human interaction. The physiological properties of the earth are having an effect, too. Has anyone looked into astronomical physics to give them insight into any of this? This could just be another Global Climate Shift like the earth has been going through since it was created 4.6 billion years ago.
This is just a thought, so don't be too harsh. Although, it is possible.

Global Warming : It is to late for Global Warming .this is the thing of the pass .Governments will not admit that it has everything to do with shifting of the earths Poles. Why because they see that the earth is turning so slow that the people do not need to know .because there is nothing that the Government can do about it. Why panic the people .people will go crazy for nothing and that they would de so much unrest. so why cause a problem. Please do not judge these words just look and lesson to the news and you will here of so many things going wrong today that it is not funny. I live way up in the north Canada North west territories .and the Lord has let me know that there shell come a time very soon that there will be no more winters .we are in November 23 I think, and we have no yet receive our cold weather like we use to .we have not even had - 20 yet and this is not normal. we should have been in - 20 over a month ago. And please note this, we had our winter here end two week earlier this year then normal .so you tell me that the Earth is not shifting . The Lord also let me know that the Earth began its slow turning in 1996. Amen
