Abortion in Ethics Class

Tagged:

After I posted my first blog today I attended Ethics Class with Dr. McKenzie, possibly the greatest class ever. If you ever get the chance, you should all take ethics. I'm not sure if it's just at my college, or at all colleges, but here at Keuka, in Ethics, it's basically a class that you discuss, which is a great learning environment. But enough about the class and onto the topic, abortion. We're going to be doing abortion all week, so this probably won't be my only post on it.

I'm not sure if most people are pro-life or pro-choice, not that it really matters, as I consider myself Pro-Choice. I feel that if you have a reason to not have a child, a woman should not have to put herself through that. I know that there is adoption, and other means to save this child without having to have an abortion, and I think they are all good choices. It is a woman's choice however, and it is her body. She should have every right to choose what she wants to do. Some woman feel that they would not be able to carry a child for nine months, and then give it up. I don't feel like I can really go that much into this subject without seeming like I'm insincere, or inconsiderate, especially on the internet with so many people reading and judging me.

I guess I'm just trying to say I think that as Americans every citizen should be allowed the freedom of choice, as guaranteed in the Constitution. My opinions on abortion aren't as solid as they used to be, and I think that is due to the fact that I've grown up a lot, and opened my eyes to what is out there. I know I am not as open-minded as I would like to be but I'm getting there.

It came up in class today about rape, and whether or not an abortion should take place, or whether it's ethical under those circumstances. I believe that yes, if you are raped, you should have every right to have an abortion. If you for some reason beyond my comprehension don't get an abortion, and you can raise this child with love, or give it up for adoption, and it has a good life, than more power to you. You are definitely a greater person than I. I know that I would never be able to do that. But it brings up a good point for those that have been adopted, like my professor even, that if you don't know who your parents are, you could have been the child of a rape victim. I thought that was very interesting.

I thought that today's class was very thought provoking, and I hope that you find this blog the same. It's only my second post so bear with me, I'm sure they are bound to get better. Thank you for your time. Keep reading and I'll keep writing.
