Another terrorist attack inevitable?

Eliminate Ignorance's picture

It has been brought to my attention that all over the news there seems to be a “Bin Laden” comeback in recent weeks. Also, these same news channels are babbling about al-qaeda regaining strength not seen since the 9/11 attacks. I am amazed of how convenient these “news” reports really are since the support for the “War of Terror”, as Borat appropriately describes the war in his movie, has plunged into an all time low. Not to mention Bush approval rating has gone through the ground. What really bothers me however, are these governmental officials almost promising another devastating attack on American soil.

For example, a couple of weeks ago former Senator Rick Santorum suggested that a series of “unfortunate events”, namely terrorist attacks, will occur within the next year and change Americans’ perception of the war. Wow really? How do you know for sure, Mr. Santorum? In Arkansas last month, the chairman of the Arkansas Republican Party, Dennis Milligan, told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, "At the end of the day, I believe fully the president is doing the right thing, and I think all we need is some attacks on American soil like we had on [Sept. 11, 2001], and the naysayers will come around very quickly to appreciate not only the commitment for President Bush, but the sacrifice that has been made by men and women to protect this country," Yeah…We “only need some attacks” to appreciate our troops, well Mr. Milligan some of us already appreciate the sacrifice of our soldiers!

What’s even more alarming is that the head of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff has a “gut feeling” that a terrorist attack will take place this summer. This is the guy who is in charge of our “security”!!! Why would he say such things? Aren’t our billions of dollars in tax money enough to help you do your job!? But then again there is no such thing as guaranteed security, it is just an illusion. Like our forefather Benjamin Franklin once said, “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Can anyone say PATRIOT ACT? Please, I beg of you not to absorb such fear-creating propaganda from the media, nor let this Administration fool you into thinking that liberty for security are a fair trade. God Bless America. RON PAUL for President 2008!!

I went to an anti-war protest last week, a counter-filibuster, to pressure congress while the Republicans were doing their filibuster and the Dems forced them to stay all night and actually ride out the filibuster for at least one night.

I was on the corner of one of the busiest streets in Los Angeles with a couple of other protesters. We got at least a hundred honks for peace.

And a very interesting thing happened, a guy walking down the street stopped to talk to us. Now this guy didn't look like the political type, he was a big white male who had a shaved head.

He told us, "Isn't it funny, that the news is saying that there is probably going to be a terrorist attack in the US at the same time that people are rising up against the war?" He went on to say that, it was obvious that the powers that be were trying to distract people with fear but that it wasn't going to work.

People aren't stupid like the powers that be think they are, most people are well aware that the executive wants them to be afraid so that they won't dissent.

Fear won't work either, the antiwar movement is powerful and the impeachment movement is gaining strength with 54% of Americans wanting to impeach Cheney.

Congress is being a little unresponsive right now, and they are not doing everything they can to end the war. And only a few brave congresspeople are noticing the impeachment movement.

But you have to remember, even the biggest of cowards in Congress, need to get re-elected and if you keep putting pressure on them, they will respond because they want to keep their jobs.

So don't fall for the fear, and keep the pressure on for what you believe.

P.S. If you really want peace and liberty vote for (and maybe even donate to) Kucinich, Richardson, or Gravel (guy who published Pentagon Papers and was instrumental in ending Vietnam War) who are the presidential candidates doing the most to end the War in Iraq and end the perpetual "war on terror". They would take steps to prevent more terrorism but realize that you can't have a never ending war on an idea.

Hey thanks for commenting to my blog with an open mind. The reason I say this is because every time I post something I get insulted big time. I am glad that you protest against the war its great to know that a lot of people out there are starting to see this war for what it really is. Take Care.

How come no one has thought of protesting/boycotting Lockheed Martin and GE and Boeing and all of the other companies who lend help to the war effort? Attack the problem at the root.

Anyway, the man knows who the right candidate is, and oddly enough, he's running as a Republican. Ron Paul has the most consistant voting record that reflects his stance on civil liberties and stopping the war. He's been consistant in voting against measures such as the PATRIOT act (not true of Kucinich) and the war itself. Unlike the candidates you named, Paul's idea of freedom extends to freedom from the US Government's racketeering policy (also known as the federal income tax) and the freedom for the American consumer to choose which products he buys (that is, against embargos and alleged 'free trade' organizations like NAFTA, the WTO, the IMF, the World Bank and the various GATT treaties).

What do you plan to do, refuse to fly on flights that use Boeing planes? Or do you plan to boycot the hundreds and hundreds of GE products that appear in homes around the country? And even if you were successful in boycotting these companies, will those products/services just come to a grinding halt? In both the cases of GE and Boeing, and even Lockheed Martin, there are replacement products, so if one company stops, then another will certainly pick up. And that, is what is so wonderful about capitalism.

Responding to your second paragraph, I'm convinced the republican party is going to have a really hard time rebounding from Bush's fiasco. Regardless of the candidate or their policy, Republicans face much hostility from Democrats and Republicans alike, which will probably stop a great Republican candidate from having a successful run in the 2008 elections.

I also said protest. If there weren't the risk of arrest, I'd probably also advocate arson. But that's just me.

There has to be some way to stop the bureaucracy/lobby that these companies have. There's also petitions, letters to the CEO, anthrax. Wait, did I say anthrax?

You damn right capitalism rules. It's the government that fucks it up. Hence why I'm kind of opposed to viewing the government as the end all be all of protests. Like why the hell do people protest the government to pass environmental regulations when they could just as easily write mass letters to major corporations to do the same thing (and unlike the government, the corporations have a major incentive - that the letter writers will endorse their product)?

"You damn right capitalism rules. It's the government that fucks it up."
So very very true

How can they be so sure? and if they are that sure why cant they do something about it? or at least try.
AND I cant believe he said we need some more attacks like those on 9/11. What American in their right mind would EVER say that?

Our headless foreign policy has gotten us nowhere and will continue to get us nowhere so long as we refuse to learn from our mistakes. This isn't about Bush in particular, but about our policy towards the Middle East since 1947. The American government is so tied up in allegiances and ideologies that we're hard-pressed to actually get anything done, and the cycle of fear mongering and isolationism does nothing to help the international community or even to serve the interests of our own country. So long as we continue down this path of self-righteousness, we will never see a solution until something far worse comes along (Colonialism->Communism->Fascism->Nazism->Stalinism->Terrorism->??).

I've been boycotting those companies all my life, in fact when was the last time you ever bought something from Lockeed Martin? Much easier to boycott the companies that depend on sales to the little guys like you and me, i'm talking about FOX and the media spin doctors who push war propaganda that keeps Lockeed Martin in business. Don't turn off FOX, turn it on and watch the sponsors then write to them and tell them you ain't buying it 'cause you know FOX is lying. If they feel they may loose sales they will pull their adds and FOX will loose money. Not a big deal for them right now but it might have an impact on investors who tend to get nervous about the future value of their stock.

Its a long term plan that has more potential than boycotting the military industrial complex... are you interested in buying a new helicopter?
