Damnit. I really hate my iPod. Not for the reason that it doesn't play videos (I like music better), not for the reason that it's a little to small (only 20GB), and not for the reason that it's not in color. No, I hate my iPod because it isn't durable enough to stand up to everyday bumps and scrapes. Point and case: Have an iPod? Take a look at the screen after turning it off. Turn it so that the light kind of glares off and you will see all kinds of scrapes and scratches.
I've dropped my iPod. Most people have. Common occurance to drop something so small. We do it all the time. So why, oh WHY, is Cingular/Motorola (I belive, though if I'm wrong let me know) able to come out with a phone that will stand up to the test in Iraq? They have a cell phone that can be dropped in the toilet, dropped from like 10 feet, and burried! and still work. They say, "Well, don't do that." But it can be done.
Why is the iPod so easy to destroy? Don't get me wrong, I've had my iPod for something like 2 years now (wow...long time), but the fact that I have to restore it and add my 2700+ songs back once a month is really riding on my nerves.
Apple should strive for a more durable iPod, something that would be able to withstand being run over with a car. They've got the materials; let's rebuild him, make him stronger and better than before. I'd pay $450 for a 30GB that I could drop and not worry about losing music.

Well.. I don't have an iPod.. but I have several friends who do.. and it seems like its a major problem. Sounds like a good idea. It doesn't take genious to figure out those things need to be more durable. Which is one reason why i'm not pining for one.. I'm really clumsy.. and i'm afraid i'd kill it in the first month.. not good for such a high priced "toy"

actually, i believe the nano can actually be run over by a car and still survive.
i read about a couple tests (can't remember where a few guys did when it first came out. drove a car right over it and it still worked. It just becomes really scratched.
Bu ti do agree, they have to be more scratch resistant.
If you've never been to willitblend.com, you're missing out.
here is a video where they destroy an ipod.

mine is a pain in the ass.
im not gonna lie.
been there, done that.
and killed it several times,
actually as we speak im currently restoring it.
again.
I got a super-duper case for mine... I think it cost(ed?) about $10. It's hard plastic. My iPod itself is completely devoid of scratches and knicks. I've dropped it enough times for it to be in a million pieces, but I've never had to do a restore or a repair.
You should get one.
Even though this post is almost a year old, and you probably have something much farther along on the technical pyramid by now.

You would think, right? Nope. I still carry around my 3rd Generation touch wheel black and white 20GB ipod in order to be with my music, well, most of my music. I've got over 30GB of music and a 20GB ipod...lol
