Some people say that as Americans, we need to support the President's actions. They say not supporting the war is unpatriotic. We voted for the President, so we need to respect his choices. Senator Kerry says otherwise.
"BOSTON - Those who disagree with the Bush administration's policies in Iraq face the same scornful charges that they are unpatriotic as Sen. John Kerry did 35 years ago when he spoke out against the Vietnam War, the Massachusetts Democrat said Saturday.
"I have come here today to reaffirm that it was right to dissent in 1971 from a war that was wrong. And to affirm that it is both a right and an obligation for Americans today to disagree with a president who is wrong, a policy that is wrong, and a war in Iraq that weakens the nation," Kerry said to a standing ovation Saturday at Boston's historic Faneuil Hall."
"Lives have been lost to bad decisions," Kerry said. "Not decisions that could have gone either way, but decisions that constitute basic negligence and incompetence. And lives continue to be lost because of stubbornness and pride."
I agree with Kerry. I don't support the war in Iraq. That said, though, I do support the soldiers there. I hate when people are for some reason against the soldiers. They're innocent; they didn't make the bad decisions. We need to pray for them and hope that they can come home safely...and soon.
I think Bush made a mistake in going into Iraq in the first place. He never found the supposed weapons of mass destruction. His first mistake: going there before there was efficient evidence to prove weapons of mass destruction were there. Second mistake: not leaving once he realized that there were no weapons of mass destruction.
I don't know if he really can pull the troops out now, though, since Iraq is on the brink of civil war. He can't just create chaos in the country and then leave. I don't know what a solution is. So I agree with Kerry that we can be against the war without being unpatriotic, but at this point, I don't think we can pull out of the war either. That would look really bad on America: to invade a country and leave before it's stabilized.

Sorry dear.
Diebold voted for the pResident in 2004. The supreme court selected the pResident in 2000. A newspaper consortum later discovered that Al Gore had actually WON the election when a real vote count was held.
AND also, Blackwell disenfranshised thousands of voters. He threw out democratic registrations. He played fast and loose with voting machine placement. Republican party hacks went to Ohio and actually got caught calling black voters and giving them the wrong polling place as well as the wrong day to vote.
Sorry Peppermint, but when you say, "We voted for the pResident" what the world knows is that the Republican party CHEATED in order to place their guy back in the White House.
The interesting thing is that now moderate Republicans in Ohio are frightened that their vote in 06 will be stolen too. And suddenly, they're not really pleased with the cheating ways of the Republican party.

Oh...and yes...speaking of dissention of a war, wouldn't you think if dissention can protect the troops and get them out of there safely OR if it can actually get this incompetent regime to send them WORKING EQUIPMENT (armor that works and hummvies that work) so that our soldiers don't have to dig for their own scrap metal, then I'd say the dissent is not only necessary but it's the MORALLY RIGHT decision.
And if blind support is so important, I suppose when someone tells you their jumping off a bridge you're willing to jump right in and follow them even though they're clearly making the wrong choice.
"And if blind support is so important, "
Um, did you read my entire post? I don't support the war. I just said we have to support the troops. It seems to me like you only read the 1st paragraph of what I wrote, beased on your response.
I do apologize. I admit I read your introductory paragraph on the main page and the section in the article where the Republican claims they "never claimed dissent wasn't patriotic" and I saw red.
My apologies to you, Peppermint.
Thank you.
Holy cow... the post-election investigation of the 2000 election shows that Bush really did win. It's remarkable how some of you will take published, verifiable facts and ignore them and say what you "feel". You can try to find out why your views are not "mainstream" despite your beliefs, and change them to get more people on your side, or you can try to convert others to your left-of-mainstream views to garner votes. But to simply say things that are not true and think that to say them makes them true is not beneficial to yourself or any cause. Except for the Republican cause - we assimilate data, determine the facts, and identify sources of misinformation and outright lies (such as libs) and dismiss them as unreliable. =)
heh heh heh...and where are those WMD?
That's right, they're under Bush's desk and in a forged Nigerian report as well as a bunch of cherry-picked words. The only reason the election information is not mainstream is because the other Republican propaganda arm hasn't told the Americans the truth. That other arm is the corporate media--the Republican owned Republican media! The same media that hires Republican consultants and Republican lobbyists. The same media that donates huge amounts of money to the Republican party.
However, we, the American people, are hurt by the blatent buying of the media and their use of propaganda. And if you don't believe me, look up Jeff Ganon or Armstrong...just as a start!

On the basis of your title I completely disagree with Kerry and I think he's a complete moron. Not in the mood for defending right now.
Interesting post however...
With the WMD thing, you never know. Ever heard of such a thing as moving them? There are endless possibilities and posisble explanations.

Wow. On the basis of your reply, we can see that you don't follow facts. Ever hear of the weapons inspections that were following the weapons for years before Bush kicked them out? Ever think that his own ineptitue caused the 'removal' of such items if they exsited?
Next...No...kerry is not a moron. He lived through smears in the sixties and was proven correct. He has watched the corrupt republicans lie, lie, lie and run such an incompetent war that I personally could do it better even though I have no experience. Furthermore, he is right...not one person should be called unpatriotic because they demand accountability and truth and competence from their public servants. Yes...Bush is a servant too. Our tax dollars pay for that corrupt millionaire's salary.
