Country Music vs. Pop Music

Pop music’s common themes of relationships and physical attraction don’t appeal to everyone. Country music’s ideas of the farm lifestyle and nostalgia sometimes agitate people.
But really, is one that much better than the other?
CMT and GAC play a lot more music videos than MTV or VH1. The latter two always have reality shows airing instead, or so it seems. It also seems like all the country stations play is videos. Since MTV stands for Music Television and VH1 stands for Video Hits One, common sense says that they would play music and music videos. But they don’t.
The country videos are also a lot cleaner than the pop videos. The singers and dancers in the pop videos tend to wear less and show more than in the country ones.
On the other hand, there’s only so much of the same voice and same sounds of country music that can be handled. Not that pop is that much better, but at least with that, the electric guitar is used along with the acoustic.
Which is another point. The instrumentation is better in pop music. The bass guitar, heavy amps, and sometimes even a second guitar are added. Country might have this, but with pop, its mixed up and more interesting.
Through all their differences though, there’s only so much of the reoccurring themes that can be sung. There are enough broken relationships in pop music to drive anyone crazy. And does there really need to be another song about farming?
But none of that is going to change unfortunately. So in the end, people are just going to have to deal with the lack of music on MTV and VH1 and the bleakness of country music.

Both are horrible. No one tractor is sexy and I don't want to hear one more whiny pops tar sing about how she slept with someone. So if I had to choose to marry pop or country I would live my life out as a spinster..Oh, and watch Discovery channel or National Geographic instead of wasting your time watching a show hosted by someone with the last name Tequila (how is that entertainment).

You over-generalize. Many country songs cross over into pop music. See anything by Carrie Underwood, a great deal by Shania Twain, and many, many other songs. Even Taylor Swift, who has the country twang, has crossed over into pop music. She was one of the artists featured on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve. To say that all country songs are about farming is grossly ignorant of the music genre, as the vast majority of country songs are not about farming. There's obviously a few artists who thrive in that part of the genre, but they are few.

It's all a matter of what you're brought up with, personal preferences, and how much of any one genre of music you've listened to. I grew up with country music, and honestly, it's not all about farming, and a lot of it crosses over into pop or rock, some dabbles in hip-hop, and so on. I can't say much about pop music because I haven't listened to as much of it.

But what I can say about country music is that it's definitely geared toward life in general. But hey, there's something for everyone. And personally, having an obsession with tractors...I do think a tractor is sexy. XD

MTV and VH1 have contributed to the destruction of music. These two stations no longer serve their original purpose, which you accurately described as "playing music videos".

Have you ever watched the show TRL? I really don't need to see screaming girls for 40 minutes and 10 "music video" clips of half-naked women and chauvinstic men crammed into the other 5 (I'm accounting for the remaining 15 minutes with commercials).

And as far as pop and country go, the goal of both of these genres is entertainment and making money. So you have to consider that these two types of music (which by the way are only scraping the surface of possible styles of music) have to appeal to the most people possible in order to be successful. I'm not a huge fan of either, but that doesn't mean that there are NO good songs in either genre.

MTV and VH1 have become all kinds or reality shows and hardly ever play music. Pop music usually forces you to look up the lyrics to find out what they are saying. Country music slows it down so you can undestand but sometimes it's too slow. So which is better? I am not sure I cannot judge I like both and dislike both at times. Music is music and it usually comes from someones heart and thats all that matters.
