Corruption exists everywhere right here in the U.S. it is worse but I am yet to see that televised on TV. Compared to the scams that are executed down here, those in Nigeria are just phase 1 and the only difference is that this Nigerian scam artists who are obliviously illiterates have intellectually advanced and are extremely smarter than the literate/college graduates/senators/congress
men who fall for this scams.

It is shameful I admit to see that our country is being ridiculed on national tv like scamming is all we are about. Both the inventors of the scam and the so called victims are all SCAMMERS... The victim are greedy, the want fast money and there is no way in hell that they can bring up an excuse that they didn't know whatever deal they were getting themselves into wasn't illegal.

Common how can u pay ~$3,500 and profit more than $12,000,000 by HELPING OUT"... They know it cannot be legal yet they feel that if they play their cards right they would profit tremendously from it.. I call that stealing and i feel they should be locked for it.

In every country there are people who are ready to work for their livelihood and also people who are looking to make it big-time without any hard work. So why I ask in the news report on ABC are they generalizing Nigeria as nothing but a country of scam artists and citizens with basically no view of life, future ahead of them, a place who citizens have no sense of morality and lastly a place of no economic value " An average citizen make approximately 1dollar per week".

Common now look at the areas of broadcast selected... "market places", Oshodi, Ketu, Ojoto, mile 12.. So many people watch these broadcast and am sure they are going to have a wonderful impression of Nigeria...

" A country full of scam artists and a country not worth living in"

If these are the preconceived notions that they are trying to put in other people minds, then i would like to say that with my past experiences in this country and what I and so many Nigerians i know have been through we should therefore generalize this country as " A racist, feeding of other countries resources, uneducated (presido no fi speak correct statement) country.

But I cannot feel this way because this country is blessed with the diverse groups of people who contribute to this nations growth. For every bad apple on a tree there is a good one to.

NIGERIA is blessed and for every bad apple............. So next time ABC broadcast/investigate problems occurring in Nigeria them should take the time to also broadcast what a beautiful country it is "lekki, Maryland, Apapa" , the flourishing natural resources that we produce "which by the way contributes to this economy" and last the brilliant citizens being born everyday who are trying to make the country a better place and in the U.S. are at the top of their game.

So my Nigerians be proud of what we have achieved and let us work harder to change our country so as to stop corruption and change the notion that Nigeria is a country of scam artists.

AS for the scam artist.. werepe lo se won.. see as them just dey disgrace person for here... How we go won take represent our contri now...ehhhh..Insult

I want to classify them as being foolish but i cannot do that because I feel that they are really really SMART but too damn smart for their own good.

"419 no be stealing, it is just a game everybody dey play am

When Oyinbo man play waiyo, them go so say na new style.
When contri man do the same thing them go sey bring am, Kpia am

Them be mugu... Educated Illiterates"

If you think about it when all these exchange of money was going through no one came out to say ohhh some NIGERIANS promise to give me millions of dollars in exchange of my help. But now that no money has surfaced, everyone is running helter skeeter.

If the money had gone thru with awon oyinbos receiving the million of dollars do u think they would come out to announce/broadcast it. Not ABC

See am I am a pure breed Nigeria no foreign blood watsoeva. NGA positive ni mi se. I lived in Nigeria through the good and bad times and relocating here was just a thing of advanced placement. NO be sey I be runaway but as situation kon dey critical, survival kon become minimal so temporary relocation was the next optimatum.

like many of my Nigerians all over the U.S we are here for one thing. Our education. Which in turn will be a driving force for money making. We are as wonderful and any God given creatures. We know what we want and set our minds to get it. Yet their might be bad apples but nigga pls there are worse in the U. S. of A.

If we are to be generalized as vagaboons then so be it. We would take that as our driving force for improvement. But you know this trade of corruption was not originally ours. It was learnt, imitated and perfectly duplicated from our colonial masters. Corruption in our politics, economic system, has left us with a huge survival skill but in the wrong hands but with the wrong frame of mind and in an individual with no with to work hard but just get fast money then we see how the rise of 419 begins.

The rich become richer and the poor becomes poorer. With no means of social advancement what are they left with. Nothing. So using their streets smarts they put their well couped game into play. SCAMS. The oyinbo people who fall for it are called the victims. and we are thereby called the scoundrels.

If we are then this, then how dumb is it that you the "White Man" howard schooled, scholarshiped thru,...... could fall for this. Now we may not be as socially developed as this dear nation but as i always say are 10x culturally advanced and a 100x intellectually developed.

That my dear friends though could be imitated but neva DUPLICATED.

So the lesson today my dear friends that these oyinbo's should learn is that:
THEY GAS TO SHINE THEIR EYES, SHINE AM WELL WELL......

"Which way Nigeria, which way do we go."

And there was June 12 palaba

Then The Ogoni Wahala!

Politics no get direction

Education no get head

Religion has now become the Opium of the poor

Today a Thief is a Chief

Nigeria "turned" Tupsy turvy

Rich Men for Rich Women

Better Women for Better Men

Now "where is the fate of the majority that are poor?"

The future slips out of hand...just like that..

I hope it changes for the best

And may God make a way

To be continued....

Intellectual Masturbation Rubs Me The Wrong Way

Intellectual masturbation is a big problem on campus. Every class I go to, there’s one or two people with no shame. They don’t hesitate doing it in front of everybody who is there trying to learn. The time has come to take a long, hard look at intellectual masturbation and examine how it affects our campus.

Intellectual masturbation can be defined as: 1. The act of satisfying one’s ego through statements intended only to show off one’s intelligence. 2. Acting like a know-it-all jerk that no one likes to listen to and everyone wishes would just shut up.

The most common form of intellectual masturbation comes in class discussion. Students will be exchanging ideas on a topic. Most listen and respond to what others say. It seems that real academic dialogue is taking place. Then, without warning, the intellectual masturbator intrudes with a five-minute rant on something remotely related to the topic. He will bring in outside reading that has little to do with the subject area and certainly didn’t appear anywhere on the course syllabus. The other students will sit in pain and watch as the student continues for what seems like hours. When the act of self-satisfaction is finished, the class is incapacitated, and the professor struggles to connect what was said back to the class discussion. Sometimes the professor succeeds in retaining the class’s focus, but more often than not, the class discussion never reaches the same level it had been before someone decided to turn it into an ego-stroking session.

The truly talented intellectual masturbator doesn’t need a class discussion to satisfy his urges. Even in a large lecture class, he will find a way to show everyone else in the class how smart he is. The most common technique is what I like to call the “Trojan Horse.? It works like this:

Professor: “Does anyone have any questions about this, anything they need cleared up? Yes Mr. Jones, you have a question.?

Student: “I’ve always thought that … [five minute dissertation entitled ‘Look at me, I’m smart.] … would you agree??

I’m sure we’re all familiar with this technique from freshman year. It appears to be very popular with the more experienced practitioners, as it requires a higher level of skill and carries more risk. Yet at the same time, it seems to be much more pleasurable for the student, most likely because he has a much larger audience. Intellectual masturbation is inherently exhibitionist in nature.

This brings us to the third common type of intellectual masturbation. It requires by far the most hubris, presents the greatest danger and clearly provides the optimum level of pleasure for those who do it. It is a close cousin of the “Trojan Horse? technique but occurs on a much grander scale. I speak of the “Prove to the famous person that they’re wrong and you’re smarter than they are? technique. As its name implies, this technique requires the presence of someone famous, and at Georgetown that means it can only be done during the question and answer session that follows a speech by a major figure.

After the speaker is finished, the student will be one of the first in line at the microphone. When his turn comes, he will indeed ask a question. However, the question will approach 10 minutes in length, include every possible counter-argument to the speaker’s position and usually be quite rude and unoriginal. Yet, when the student is finished asking the question, self-satisfaction flows over him as he basks in the warmth of his own genius.

What makes this form of intellectual masturbation the most painful to witness is not so much the audacity or arrogance of it but its inherent futility. Just what does the student expect to accomplish?

Student: “ … [After eight-minute presentation of every imaginable pro-choice argument] … So how can you possibly be pro-life Mr. Keyes??

Alan Keyes: “My God, you’re right! The fetus is not a human person! And to think I’ve spent the last 16 years of my life working to take away a woman’s right to choose. I should be ashamed. Thank you, sir, for enlightening me.?

It’s like trying to persuade the Dalai Lama that he should start a violent Tibetan resistance movement. Did students really think that Larry Flynt would stop publishing Hustler because they showed him how pornography objectifies women? Did they expect Charlton Heston to hold a press conference the day after speaking at Georgetown to announce the NRA was now backing handgun control?

I don’t mean to be so judgmental about intellectual masturbation. I respect your right to tell yourself how smart you are. I don’t honestly care if you stand in front of your mirror late at night and contrast Plato’s Republic to the liberalism of J.S. Mill. I just don’t want to watch.

Hi cynthian,
Welcome to ProU. You have some good writing here, and it looks like you put a lot of work into making your writing original. You could get better exposure and more respect if you made each topic a separate post, instead of adding new topics as comments. Can you please copy the two long comments you made on this post into separate posts and delete the comments? If you need any help with this, or someone makes a comment that should stay with what you wrote please let me know and I will try to help. Keep up the good writing, and I hope you enjoy blogging on ProU.
