As I was just skimming through several comments on a blog, I noticed that someone wrote something along the lines of, "You can't find out your purpose by asking someone else. You have to search within yourself to find your purpose." On the surface, this comment SEEMS to make sense. But I think it goes a bit deeper than looking inside yourself.
Look at it this way... imagine if a complicated technological machine somehow ended up on your doorstep - one you've never seen before. You have no idea what it is or what it's supposed to do. How would you find out what the machine is meant for? By asking the machine? No, you would search for a label or brand to find out who invented the machine. It's similar with us people. We can't ask ourselves what we're made for, because we didn't create ourselves. We can't make up our own purpose because our Creator already had an original purpose set for us. Hence, in order to discover what the meaning of life is or what our purpose is here on earth - we must as God, who created us for a reason. The Bible is like an Owner's Manual. It tells us what we should avoid, what we should look forward to, why we're here, and how we came to be in the first place.
Rick Warren, an amazing author, wrote a book titled "The Purpose-Driven Life" that goes much more in depth about this topic. This blog simply explains that we'll never discover the meaning of life by searching within ourselves. Rather, we should ask the One who invented us with a purpose in mind.
