I want to go back to first grade.
With storytime. You would all sit around a rug, crossing your legs. There would have been secret treaties to arrange who was sitting next to who. The teacher reading aloud, changing their voice for each of the characters. And no quiz afterward to test your listening comprehension.
With snacktime. A break in the day for snack? I'd take that! That extra boost of energy, with food and talking to all of your friends.
With cooties. Recess spent with girls running and hiding from boys. Hold their hand for square dancing? Ewww! Circle, circle, dot, dot. Now I've got my cootie shot.
With the lunch room trades. "I'll give you my pudding for your cookie". And the once a week ice cream treat. You'd be ecstatic to find the extra money in your lunch pail. You could always be found searching the couches at night for extra change to get another "ice cream day".
Lunch also represented the biggest decision of your life: buy or bring? With hot dogs that bounced and melted cheese that was already solid again, how could you go wrong buying your lunch? That was a test of your courage- if you ate the school lunches.
If you could go back, would you? To a time when there were no big decisions or responsibilites? To a time where homework was a five minute worksheet?

i miss the head up seven up times, and the Mardi grass parties and parades our school held....and god forbid you got your card pulled.

What about actually wearing halloween costumes to school? Those were the days- and we alwasy wanted to GROW UP. Shows how little kids really know.

I wouldn't. My childhood sucked, and I didn't have the power to change my situation. Now, I do. Now, I spend time deciding whether to buy or bring, I get snacks everyday, not just at school, and ice cream whenever I want!

If I had a normal kidhood, I probably would. :)

Well, at least you get to do all of the 'kid' stuff now. It is true that some of those things never lose their appeal. I know I love going to the playground with my little sister ha ha

just try to do something new everyday and you will not loose touch with your inner child thingie. and be goofy sometimes, it is fun.

i wouldn't for a second. i do miss the simplicity from time to time, but knowing now what the world can truly be (the good AND the bad) i don't think i could ever make the decision to go back to such a time of ignorance, even if it does mean missing out on the easily attained bliss.

The swings. And the entire playground. Summers were completely free, and I didn't have to worry about getting a job. Fights with friends were over as soon as they started.

Good point about fights- now they can draw on for weeks, months, even years.

Mrs. Mary Mack. I went to a Chinese retaurant. My name is ...... Dodge ball . You brought me back to childhood for a moment. Good one. Sometimes I wish I could back. Sometimes I like the way things are now.

I'm glad I brought back memories for you. I find it fun and relaxing to think back and remember all my friends and the hair and clothing styles!
