Government But Not Politics

As a senior, one of my required classes for graduation is Government. Before school started, I didn't really want to take this class because I had no interest in our government system. I thought I knew enough about it to get me by in the world. But now, 2 months into it, I really enjoy that class, even though the teacher isn't the best, I am learning things that my ignorant self didn't know. You could have asked me what federalism was a couple of months I ago, and I would have made up some bogus answer to make you think I knew what it was. But now in the class, we are reaching the part of government that I don't care for at all, political parties.

It isn't so much the political parties I don't care for, even though I consider myself an independant, it is the ensuing politics. One of the main problems that I see in American government is the rift between the political parties that isn't helping out the people. Our government is supposed to provide for the common welfare of the people, and it does to a certain extent, but the politics is holding it back. Instead of being completely loyal to their parties, politiciands need to do what they think and know is right and will benefit the people. Their needs to be more self reponsibility instead of pointing the finger. And this can also be applied to the human race in general. Honesty and sacrifice seem to be taking a back seat to personal gain and honor.

With most politicians placing their loyalty to the party rather than their (or their constituents) actual beliefs, there is little room for middle ground and rarely beneficial progress is made. Unfortunately, the reason for this is Congressmen are reliant upon their party for funding, and thus are required to do what the party asks.

Politicians are not necessarily loyal to their party - I mean you look at the British Parliament, they HAVE to be loyal....the American system is actually one of the loosest most the time

I learn more everyday. I never thought about that. But while British politicians must be loyal, whether they like it or not, American politicians seem to be loyal to benefit themselves.
