Parental Control

Being a teenager is extremely hard present day. A lot harder then it was when our parents were kids because of how the world has advanced. Now you not only have to be afraid of predators at the grocery store or at the mall but in your own home through the computer. So some people might say that these reasons give parents an even greater reason to be protective over their children. Now they have created all sorts of tracking devices for kids; in cell phones, in their cars, and parents can even track and control what internet sites or television shows kids watch. Their power is growing. On the other hand, since this century of kids has grown up with these technological advances they grew up smarter then our parents when they were kids because kids these days know what is out there and the precautions to protect one. Young adults know better then to give their real name on the internet, or tell someone where they live, or even meet someone by themselves in person. Parents sometimes forget that we are growing up, at a pretty fast rate, and we have to be given opportunities to prove we can do certain things on our own before we are sent out there to take a crack at life. Its better to try things when you are safe with your parents then be so sheltered your first eighteen years of life then go crazy once you are free. Parental control is needed, no doubt, but to an extent. Most kids will do what they want whether they tell their parents or not, so it is good to have good communication and talk about things going on. Following your kids is not a smart option. Calling the house they are suppose to be at every hour is not a smart option. And automatically assuming they are lying will not build a good relationship between you and them. Think parents, you were kids once.

You talk like if a parent is overprotective (which you will understand one day), that it is their fault kids turn 18 and go crazy....no no no. The only place parents are going wrong is helping kids understand what is right and wrong and making them aware that it will only be their fault if they mess up once they are 18. I am not much older then you I am sure, but I believe children are being open to, to many things. It's difficult for teens to understand that, until they get old enough themselves. Following a child isn't smart, but doing it til you know you can trust your child is smart. I believe teens should also not be open to all the things on the net, whether you are 13 or 16, you can say you know what to do and not to do, but put a teen in the right situation at the wrong time, and they can mess up. It isn't the parents responsibility to allow them to mess up and learn, it's there responsibility to raise their children with good morals and respect and hope they don't do those things behind their back or once they turn 18. I agree that kids need some space, but in todays world, kids are growing up much much quicker, then even 5 years ago, when I was teen, and parents can not turn their back for to long.

There aren't really that many more dangers now. "Predators" at the mall and on your computer? Hm, like what? Someone who might try to message you? O noez, you'll have to use the block button.

Teenagers have FAR more rights and freedom than they did back in their parents day.

I PERSONALLY BELIEVE THAT EACH PARENT PARENTS THEIR CHILD ACCORDING TO THEIR MATURITY AND THE REASON THAT MOST PARENTS ARE STRICTIS BECAUSE OF THEIR CHILDRENS LACK OF COMMON SENSE. ALTHOUGH MANY OF US ARE TOOLD NOT TO TAKE CANDY FROM STRANGERS BUT THIS STILL HAPPENS ON A REGULAR BASIS. I REALLY DONT THINK THAT THE TIMES WE LIVE IN NOW ARE ALL THAT MUCH WORSE ANY WAY. PEDAFILES HAVE JUST FOUND A NEW WAY TO PLAY THE GAME AND THIS HAS JUST FORCED PARENTS TO PARENT DIFFERENTLY. THEY ONLY WANT THE BEST FOR THEIR CHILD SO BEING OVER PERTECTIVE SHOULD BE REWARDED, NOT LOOKED DOWN ON. THE INTERNET HAS ALSO MADE IT EASIER TO CATCH THESE PEOPLE. RECENTLY, A MAN IN ENGLAND TOOK PICTURES WITH HIS VICTIMS AND WORPED HIS FACE. DETECTIVE WERE ABLE TO UN WORP IT AND LINK HIM TO OVER 50 OFFENSES. NEW TECHNOLIGY IS A TWO HEADED DRAGON. I AM TOTALLY IN FAVOR OF THE PARENTS. THEY KNOW WHAS BEST FOR THEIR CHILD AND THEIR INSTRUCTIONS TURNS THEIR CHILD INTO A SPITTING IMAGE OF THEM.

Please do not post comments or blogs in ALL CAPS.

It is very difficult to read and alludes to yelling, which most members of ProgressiveU will not appreciate.

Thanks! Happy Dance
