I got laid off

I was laid off from a small company in January. I was cleaning out my stuff and saw my boss’s offer letter. He was making 130,000. That was like 4 times what I was being paid. My boss had a boss and he had a boss too. So, that is like one million dollars in the work food chain that was dispersed through four people. I realized why the company crashed and burned. The company was so top heavy that everyone and her grandma had a boss. This old pyramid way of business is already out-dated. Smart businesses are going to flat models. By this, I mean having more workers and less bosses. The company where I worked had a lot of Ph. D’s and all of them were making so much money…but for so many smart people, the company was very stupid. They spend all their investment money on salaries and blackberries and travel! They hired all their friends and they gave people huge relocation packages. They bought lots of fancy lab robot stuff too. Since the hire-ups would hire their friends, these people were usually ‘stupid’ for lack of a better word. There were so many EXPENSIVE mistakes made and it all ended up causing the company to fail. I have a baby and a husband and bills and it seems like common sense not to make such foolish business decisions…but what do I know. I was wondering if this same thing has happened to anybody else out there. If so, what is your story? Why did your company or business fail?
I look forward to hearing back.

I''ve never been laid off, and I hope that I am never put into that situation. It must be rough.

Wow...you have all my sympathy. I have never been in the situation but it is a constant worry for me. Esp. with the way the economy is and how hard it is to find good jobs. My company is very stupid also. There are so many managers and directors and senior leadership and lead people it is ridiculous. Everybody needs a title these days and I think it is stupid. My title is "Information Technology Communications Specialist" you know what I do? I answer the phones! :) So many leadership people, so many dumb decisions, and so much money being spent. It is a recipe for disaster in my opinion....
