I love how America is losing it's privilege of freedom and we are helping.

As you can see from watching the news, lots of stupid laws that restrict our freedoms have been popping up from both the republicans and democrats.  A new system it seems has been set up, our freedoms are not our own anymore.  The government now has the power to give and take away our freedoms, the Constitution and Bill of Rights is dead, if you havent noticed already.  Those inalienable rights that was bestowed on us by our creator aren't inalienable anymore, they are a privilege.

Like listening to people rant about picketing and protesting at things and how people shouldn't be allowed to.  Both political parties are doing this it's not just one.  Even people on here talk about it.   Look it's like this, WBC has a right to protest at funerals...it's disgusting that they do, but this is a free country, sorry to bring that to you.  Other things people tend to rant about are like picketing at abortion clinics, protesters being arrested at political party conventions.  Now, if you're on someones private property and they ask you to leave, you need to leave.  Yet, if someone is not on private property and our picketing, protesting and the like, well then they can do that as much as they want.  Cindy Sheean might be a major pain in America's ass, but she is on public property so she can protest all she wants.  It is a free country and she has all the rights to do what she does.

Remember public property is fine, but don't take it on to someone's private property.  Some people want it to be that you can't protest on public property, I see it on here and listening to laws politicians put out.

I say, leave it alone, if you want to start restricting those freedoms, well then let the ball keep rolling and lets take away even more meaningful rights.  As the government works now, the can take away your so called freedoms on a whim.

Too bad people only look at only one part of blocking personal freedoms and not how it can be used even more against them.

Big Brother is coming, and we're helping it.  If we don't stop it, all your freedoms can be taken away, actually they can do that now.  Big Brother has started, and I do not see a new president, republican or democrat trying to stop it.

I understand what you're saying about it being okay to protest on public property, but I think protesting at funerals is going a little far. The people at the funeral are already terribly sad and they don't need protestors bothering them in such an inopportune time.

Then again, I'm not exactly sure why there would be protestors at a funeral? Do you know why? Seems a little fishy.

Fred Phelps and his band of lunatics often protest at funerals because God Hates America (and gays... and pretty much everyone except for Phelps and said band of loyal lunatics).

Ever heard of Westboro Baptist Church? Ring any bells now? Protesting at soldiers funerals, 9/11 funerals and the VT killngs

What is the point of this? Of course we've heard of it these people are stupid and crave attention, but that does not mean that she should not have rights.

Yes but I bet people are going to comment and say "Well such and such party did this and if it weren't for them..." I for one am ready for America to change, and a big change at that, for the better and I think a lot of people will agree with me.

I thought about this...my ancestors and the original inhabitants of this country had real freedom, liberty, and justice for all. when white people came here and brought slaves...hahaha. anyways sorry, they thought that they wanted freedom and all of that too. they felt entitled to have it b/c they apparently didn't have it in europe. however...the whole idea of freedom in this country is like an ugly caricature of freedom...distorted in ways that benefit some people and not others...i think it is disgusting. especially since so many native people were mowed down as white people regarded them as road blocks to the achievement of freedom. the energy that created the idea of freedom in this land by the native people who live here is still alive and in everything about this country. However, that energy is currently being used in a way that only the wealthy one percent of this country actually experiences what we call freedom while the rest of us fight and die in wars for it, struggle endlessly for it, and sacrifice everything for it...

You said:

Just who were your ancestors? Seriously, I'd like an answer to that question.

I'm Native American, my ancestors were the indigenous people of what is now called the United States. If by "your "ancestors" you're referring to the Hispanics who, atter commiting rape, pillage and genocide against the truly indigenous peoples of what is now called Mexico, Central and South America, the Incas, the Mayans and the Aztecs, we all know that they weren't interested freedom, real or otherwise, liberty or justice for anyone. They sought to impose slavery and oppression, they were racists and murderers.

Don't exploit my people's history for your corrupt agenda. They weren't slaves for you to profit from. Deal with the facts if you can handle them. Your ancestors stole and to this day continue to steal from what litle remains of the indigenous. You are the Europeans you like to accuse Americans of being.

She is native american you dimwit. Read the post more closely next time.

Look, we could have this debate for eterninty about idigenous. America has apologized to native americans, blacks, jews, everyone we have offended. It is time to move on. I'm sorry for what happened you the native americans, it was wrong, but I can't change the past. Learn from it. We were also discussing America, not our southern neighbors.

Exactly...theres a song by Zao that talks about us coming here and taking the land from the native americans. Your absoulutely right though about how our idea of freedom has been distorted.

What freedom-limiting laws are you talking about, exactly? And please don't just say "The Patriot Act."

I'm a liberal democrat, and am fed up with so called democratic leaders who are more interested in their own power than in protecting our right and freedoms.

I hate Michale Savage, and Rush Limbaugh, but I wouldn't destroy the right to free speech and the right to have a free press because of that Yet a member of the San Francisco county board of supervisors is attempting to violate free speech rights. Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval demands that free speech rights only apply to those who he agrees with.

In Newark, NJ the Hispanic American orgnization that is against amnesty and against open borders, "You Don't Speak For Me" got a permit to protest after the rape and murders of those three young college students slaughtered by illegal alien gang bangers. The city changed their minds after issuing the permit and informed them that they wouldn't provide police protection to them, despite the fact that these citizens had been threatened by the illegal alien gangs, MS13 and the Latin Kings. In Los Angeles, the mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa demanded that police not protect African American protestors, who were holding a legally permitted protest in Highland Park, a neighborhood where illegal alien gangs were murdering innocent African Americans in an attempt of ethnic cleansing. The gangs harassed and threatened the protest group Choose Black America, and the police allowed this to go on. Upon nearing the park, the Los Angeles police arrested the leader of Choose Black America because they refused to abandon the protest and wished to enter the park.

These wrongs were sanctioned by democratic politicians who are seeking to exploit power for profit. They are guilty of violating their oaths of office and as such are seeking to erode the freedoms of American citizens.

That's the point I was trying to make.

What freedoms exactly are you complaining about that we have had taken away? I saw nothing in the news recently.

This is from summer of this year. Look, we have the patriot act, WBC was being silenced for protesting at funerals, our amendment rights are being taken away. Freedom of speech in schools is null and void almost. It seems to be both sides faults.

If you rely on the news for the truth, that is reflected in your post. check out RONPAUL2008.com to start with. Then Google freedom in the press or controlled media. Hope your sitting down

Vote Ron Paul for president, some hope is better than none or the same old hat.

Yes, because a man who doesn't recognize globalization and thinks we should go back to a gold standard will make a GREAT President.

NOT

It is long established law that freedoms are not absolute. You do not have the free speech right to yell "FIRE!" in a crowded theatre. You do not have the right to threaten to kill the President or anybody else. You do not have the right to freedom of speech when you are planning a crime (conspiracy). Hate speech can cause you a world of legal trouble particularly if it is coupled with any other crime. The law when correctly applied balances your rights against the rights of others and the public good.

People are guaranteed the right to freely practice their religion. For many people, burying their dead family members is one of the most somber and serious moments in their religious lives. Even non religious people tend to wax spiritual at such moments. Having a bunch of crazed whack jobs protesting and interfering with such a moment interferes with the family's rights to exercise their freedom at one of their darkest times. It is shameful. The law absolutely has an obligation to see that their rights are protected. I have no problem forcing these whack jobs to exercise their right to free speech at a respectful distance. They are still allowed to speak but not in a manner that interferes with the rights of others.

(While it is not germane to this discussion, I personally wish the citizenry would rise up in outrage and lay into those protestors and beat that scum to death with axe handles.)

The Constitution is a social contract. Fortunately in America we take it about 3/4ths seriously. Most other countries have Consitutions that read every bit as great as ours but they are not respected and are therefore meaningless.

The purpose of the Constitution is stated in the preamble:

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

The only way a contract like that can possibly work and allow us to continue in freedom is for people to exercise responsibility. Without responsibility, freedom equals anarchy. The founders were interested in liberty but as they stated in the preamble they also wanted security, justice and domestic tranquility.

If people don't act responsibly in the exercise of freedoms, the freedoms will be taken away and the reason they will be taken away is that people will demand it. Most people will put security and tranquility above freedom. By silencing those protestors and protecting the freedoms of mourning families to mourne in relative peace and privacy while they freely practiced their religion the Constitution and liberty was protected because justice was done and tranquility was restored. By limiting the rights of those whackjobs to abuse freedom, they reduced the pressure which would come from the people to sharply limit speech.

Everybody today know they have rights but apparently somebody forgot to teach them that they also have responsibilities.
