'salty water
from a bandaged heart
painting peach white cheeks
Tell me again, why it hurts so much when there is no blood involved?'
I wrote that a while ago, and still, the words are simple and just say so much with saying so little... if that makes any sense.
I've written poetry all my life. Some bad, some good, some funny, alot about love and heartbreak. All we every write is about what we know. I think it's a good thing to share with others what you have gone through, so they know what it's like, even just a hint of what it may have been like, so they can learn from mistakes and whatnot. Even for entertainment, poetry is a great tool. It seems dead in this day and age, but it is used in so much. Especially songs. Today our world is very music oriented and I like the fact that lyrics don't all rhyme, and sometimes make no sense, and we force our own ideas of what they are metaphorically meaning... which is actually only bs sometimes. :)

No offense, but poetry about love and heartbreaks are trite and, unless handled with caution, will be remarkably bad. I always appreciate poets who take a step forward and write about life instead of love. Metaphors are good, but above all, make sure your poetry make sense. Grandiosity is a huge turn-off in poetry.
And no, poetry-writing is not for everyone. I can tell a good poem from a bad poem, but I can't write a decent poem for shit.
