I was just browsing threw some blogs and came acrossed one girls post about racisimin public schools. I must say i agree with her to a point, I never really was confronted with racisim untill i moved back tot he states in 2000. You see i grew up in the military. Most military kids are faced with growing uo in diffrent countries, so they are all forced to get to know each opthers cultures and respect one another, regaurdless of color, race or gender. I feel blessed ig pot to experience that, i feel that it has made me more open minded and more educated in some ways(however you prob could not tell from my typing ha ha). Anyways let me cut to the chase. Growing up in japan, i never really thought anything about dating someone from a diffrent race, most airforce personell in japan is either black, hispanic, or japanese. My best friends were all japanese, so you can imagine my shock when i moved to Beaufort , South Carolina, and was givin nasty looks for going o dinner and a movie with the boy next door, who happend to be indian. I could not believe it, the next day the same gir who had been friendly with me before was cld as ice, but all my ethnic friends were now my best friends. Thats just the way it was, there were the "island crew" and the "main land crew"
the two ganges. That hates each other, unless they were going agenst the "rich kids" then they were one crew...it was crazy. I had never seen so much racisim. The worst case i have ever seen is here, where i live now in JAcksonville Florida. Terry Parker High School was the worst highschool i have ever been to, not only are the students super racist, but the staff as well. My crew and i had had our own senior breakfast, at a friends house...and boy was it a big one, you name it we had it, anywhere from biscuts and gravy , to waffels and muffins...it was awesome, he he. However my friend had just broken up with his girl and she knew about us, so she called us in, and low and behold we got caught. All the black kids were put in ISSP, andme and the white kids were told to go on to class...now tell me, how is that fair??i had prob been caught skipping at least 3 times prior to that.
Anyways later on in the school year, this boy who i will call domnic, sarted harrassing me, it started out with an innocent me asking for a pencil, and somehow he took that as me hitting on him...everyday for about a month he would say someghing nasty or slap my butt, and i would tell him to stop..i even went to the teacher who told me to ignore him.
finally it go to the point where i started asking security to escort me to class. but stil he would pass me nasty notes, even call my cell from randome numbers saying gross things. eventually i skipped class in the front office.. the principal would not take me out of he class, nothing was done about it untill my dad had to go up there in uniform. The principla tried to say i was lieing about it, but i had the notes and phone bil and i even saved his vouice mails on my phone to prove it. I had to get a restraining order from the creep. Who then when he found out had his "crew" try to start harrassing me. One day after all of this, his aunt, who was a teacher at the school stopped me in the hall and was like, give me your phone" i told her no, it was in my car so there was no need for me to hand it over. She then continued to ask me "your the girl that got domnic suspended, claiming he was harrassing you". i told her yes, because he was and it was non of her bussineess, she then informed me she would be "keeping an eye on me".
the next day, my car was broken into. and mt tires were slashed.
After experiencing all of this, i decided that our teens and young adults would benefit from living over seas. just seeing how some of the kids there, respect one another. I'll tell ya one thing, none of the kids in japan would even dream of doing half the stuff kids try to pull these days. If you got in trouble in A DOD school the principal called your parents C/O and your parents got chewed out, meaning you got your ass beat when you got home. Not to mention the bases are so small, everyone knows everyone, so if you messed up, everyone elses parents knew about it, and so did your friends.,,
Thats hwo it needs to be. Yeah, sorry for a somewhat blah blog...i was just kind of reflecting on things..i am in a reflective mood...i'll have something more spicy for ya'll later.

Maybe it's just the area you moved to?
I went to a DODDS school in Germany, and I've gone to many, many regular public schools. Most the kids at my DODDS school were White, Black, Filipino, and Hispanic. I didn't see any less racism in the DODDS school than in the public ones. I saw just as many cliques and popularity contests though.
I don't disagree that being in another culture influences your perspective of life in the States. But going to school on a military base in another country is kind of a culture of it's own. It is mainly American kids. We had a few German and Canadian kids, from families in the German and Canadian military who were stationed on the base (NATO base). But the majority of students were American.
I think the behavior might also change when one school's punishment is suspension and detention, and another school, if you get in trouble, you get booted back to the States and your parent(s) can get demoted because of your behavior.

IT could have been that, i dd move from a school who would get your prents into trouble, to the south. lol. so it was like being a tadpole in a pond with snapping turtles.
The past is the past, you can not change it. So don't dwell in your mistakes, Pick up the pieces, and instead learn from your downfall.
Wow that sucks. That Dominic was not a good fella..and his mother was no better! I'm sorry you had to experience all that and I think I agree that kids in other countries are a little more accepting. I'm wondering why America is so far behind in that respect.
