Pick on Someone Else

Bush is in a thick bush of thorns and no matter which way he turns he gets cut. Personally I don't know why he felt the need to send soldiers into Iraq and try to free them of terrorism. I think that most of the world could agree that the trouble in Iraq may never cease to exist. Think about it afrter all these years only thing that has gone up in the news is the higher body count of American soldiers over sea. As Americans we should all buy President Bush a chew toy so that he can play with something other than our mens lives.
Well let's give the possible future presidents a chance to speak on the issue.

First Obama:
How do you propose to fix the war in Iraq?
I offered a new plan for withdrawal from Iraq, which calls for immediately beginning to withdraw some combat troops from Iraq, with all combat troops gone by the end of next year. I would also keep some "residual troops" in Iraq and the region to go after al Qaeda and protect American interests in the country.

Second Hillary:
How do you propose to fix the war in Iraq?
Unfortunately, the Administration continues to pursue the same broken policy in Iraq. Our troops have done everything we have asked of them and more. I believe it is time to start bringing them home. Throughout 2007, I voted in favor of numerous legislative efforts requiring the Administration to begin to withdraw our troops and to complete the redeployment of combat troops in 2008. I will continue to be a strong advocate for such efforts to end the war.

WELL I think that's it for today, talk important tomorrow.

Two things worry me. These contribute to my unwaivering support for Ralph Nader this cycle.

Obama's statement: "protect American interests in the country." That means oil. This means we will never "leave" Iraq until America has achieved energy independence.

I believe Hillary's statement, although seemingly bold, will amount to nothing. From what I've heard, the junior senator has been a hawk on the defense committee and she has done nothing to reduce our bloated war budget. I don't see that changing if she's elected as president. Honestly I'm a bit afraid of the way she does not take a vehement stance on war profiteering. If she did that would impress me.

I don't think it's possible to pull all of our troops in just one year's time. Although I am a fan of ending the war as soon as possible, but they are blowing smoke if they really think that they can get us out of this mess in just one year.

I want out of there like crazy, but come on! We screwed tat place royally. We have a responsibility to fix it. I worry that we'll abandon them once our troops are home. I won't blame Obama or Hillary, or whomever the candidate turns out to be for this, because they weren't the reason we went over there in the first place, but I do wish more people were talking about real strategies for rebuilding Iraq.

I admit that I know nothing about war and foreign policy, but it seems to me that the Iraqi people might not hate us as much and might be more cooperative if we were investing a little more in getting jobs for them. Having American companies run the rebuilding with American contractors does not help them. If somebody did that here, I'd probably blow their shit up too. In a non-violent way, of course, as I am a pacifist.
