Are we there yet?

Oh my god.  You've got to be fucking kidding me.  35 mph on this road?!?!  I've been on roads across the country that clearly have too low of a speed limit.  It's absolutely ridiculous.  Just the other day, I went onto a side road that had a higher speed limit than the main road.  WTF?

And, yes, I am going to rant on about how bad the speed limits are throughout this whole blog because by then, just maybe by then, God will open the gates of heaven, float down, and change every single one of those forsaken signs for me.  Most roads could do with an addition of 10 to 20 mph.  I found a non-residential road the other day with a limit of 25mph and it should have been 40, which I will add every one was doing.

High ways probably have the worst speed limits EVER.  Not only are the numbers on the signs too low, but I guarantee that most of the speedometers in the cars on that highway are about 15 to 20 about that number.  About a year ago, a group of students in Georgia thought of a great idea - and I mean great - after one of them received a speeding ticket on the high way for going 80 when others are traveling at 75.  One bright morning they drove out during the rush hour traffic, lined themselves up so that no cars could pass, and drove the speed limit.  Nothing short of hilarious!  There was a huge stampede of cars behind the line that stretched for at least a mile.

Now, I used to live in Germany (please go there if you haven't, it's gorgeous!).  People are smart in Germany.  The speed limits are perfect: not too fast that safety is compromised and not too slow that people are going insane with the ridiculous of it all.  They also have the autobahn which as we all know has no speed limit.  The issue that primarily keeps the speed limit low in America is the country's terrible drivers.  Unlike Europe and probably much of the world, the driving license test, both practical and written, is way, way, way too easy and does not evaluate over all driving techniques.  If the MVA would create a better exam that would assess a driver on all areas of driving, the speed limits could increase with minimum safety cost.

In the meantime, we all have to drive above the speed limit with a vigilant eye for the cops.
