You know it's bad when you go through the heart of your city and can't walk three feet without being bombarded with fast-food signs. We talk about being healthy yet we house fast food quarters all around. They spread like a bad rash to imperialize areas due to free enterprise.
IS that the problem? No, it's not the corporations. It's ourselves. We smoke, we drink, we make bad decisions. I mean, it's getting increasing more difficult to buy fruit that isn't sprayed with 8 different pesticides containing carcinogens.
We need to do something about this. Perhaps an agriculture revolution is needed in the states. One that encourages farmers to not use tons of pesticides and growth hormones in their foods. Perhaps we need some protection from foreign companies dominating the market.
The only motivation for the farmers to use these chemicals is to just get an upper hand in the market, after all bigger is better right?
We all have read about the meat facilities and the things they do in them but can we stop it? Most likely not.
Maybe we should all just start growing our own food. :)
That's probably a bad idea, since many people spray their lawns to make their yard look like a wonderland.
What do you think we should do, should we care at all?

Isn't it sad that our "healthy" foods are sprayed with pesticides? And that nice little shine on apples? It's actually wax. Yuck.
To answer your question, I think we need to encourage local farmers to grow food-- not the corporate-owned farms, though.
That's why I go for the small, dull organic apples. Their flavor is shiny enough for me!

Good blog. If you're interested in this topic, watch a film called "The Future of Food." Pretty interesting. And also, read "The Omnivore's Dilemma." That book rocks.

I like the idea of growing our own food, prefereably in a lawn that isn't covered with jungle green spraypaint.
