let free enterprise do what it does best and lets get rid of public schools.

its pretty easy to see that the time old saying that "competition makes the consumer win" is always true, as a quick illustration of this point, reflect in your life.. where do you get better service, at your bank or at your local car impound? I can say safely for me that I've never been treated well at a car impound and have always been treated well at a bank, the difference is that there are many banks wanting my account and only one car impound that the police send all their cars to regardless of their performance... and so what do we learn? monopoly = bad news for customer service and performance.

this is what we have in public education, its not a lack of money, its a lack of free enterprise driving and pushing this industry into higher levels of excellence. I'm not talking about more tax vouchers I'm talking about complete destruction of public education. if today I took cruise missiles and over night blew up every elementary, Jr., and high school in America what would happen? would I have derailed our society would we forever be stuck in stupidity as we wondered around aimlessly looking for a source of knowledge? of course not , we would find ourselves in the greatest Educational renaissance in the history of our country. 1,000s of private schools would open up and provide a wide arrange of service and methods of educating our young people, now some would be better then others that is inevitable, but with time the customers (or students in this case) would leave the poor schools to go to better ones. and the schools that didn't perform would be weeded out of the system and the schools that gave the good results would grow and develop more ways to better education.

the strength of America has always been in its ability to adapt and change in an ever changing world, and nothing hinders this progress more then Federal government, its too big and is hard to maneuver quickly because it has to change so much on such a grand scale, smaller organizations can simple adapt and change easier and with the need to because of free enterprise they would. Government is the ultimate monopoly and is needed in things like Police, Prisons, and your Military, but in the field of education? there is no reason to force our children into a cookie cutter hack and slash no child left behind (which also means no child let ahead by definition) sub par school system.

write your state legislators and tell them how you feel, and if they don't feel that way then start voting for different people.

thank you America, let freedom ring.

My question: how are the rest of us going to afford to send our kids to school? I don't think the problem is the competition, it's the regulations that are put into place. Teachers don't want to see children learning the same crap year after year just because the dumb kid is behind, but the government does. Different incentives and punishments for excellent and poor performance could help as well. We live in a country where teachers and scholars make the same amount as state employed janitors- of course our school system is going to be a piece of crap.
