Now, I was thinking about this earlier. Every one of us has some sort of leaning on every topic or belief. It may be a small one, but there is always that small bit that pushes you in one direction or another.
Now, with this in mind, is there truly something as an unbiased source? An organization may have no interest or stated belief on the topic, but the individuals who work for the organization do. Though these individuals may try and suppress their biases, can they ever be completely objective? Can any source, organization, or system be be completely objective/unbiased?
What do you think?

No, nothing can be unbiased.
I tend to agree with that view, however I do think there are sources that are more objective and far less biased than others.

You can not completely push the way you feel on a subject out of your head, which doesn't allow someone to step back and actually write something objectively.
Almost every person has been raised by their parents, in some sort of society. Being raised in a society, means that you have been "socialized". Being socialized means that you have internalized all of the norms and rules of that society. We all, as people in societies, have had too much exposure to bias. We've had too much exposure, too early in life. It isn't anyone's fault, it is how humanity likes to keep order.
In conclusion, no organization can be totally unbiased.
But those in society all have different views on different topics. If this wern't the case everyone would agree and have the same ideals, and politics would be a one party race. Society does change people's views, but that doesn't mean everyone goes with the social norm, and in some cases there is no social norm.
But I do agree with the conclusion :)

All people have a biased nature.
However, biased natures are often given a 'bad rap.'
Bias is little more than a preconceived notion on something based on previous experience. Being biased is how you confront the idea of 'being so openminded that your brain falls out.'
I am baised against touching a glowing stove burner. I don't have to touch it, no matter what someone says about me being biased against glowing stove burners, because I have a preconceived notion that touching it will bring pain.... I know because I have done it.
Something I haven't done is dropped a slegehammer on my foot. I would have a natural bias against the idea, and I do not NEED to do it to prove or disprove the factual nature of this bias.
That said, there are many biases that prevent one from sucessfully learning or teaching. Some biases are very wrong (like thinking more or less of someone based on race.) They may be BASED on experience, but may be incorrectly formed by that experience. (thinking "A black person mugged me in minneapolis, therefore black people are muggers and I won't like them." would be an example of such a faulty bias)
You're using inductive reasoning here and common sense.
Bias means - influence in an unfair way; "you are biasing my choice by telling me yours"
a partiality that prevents objective consideration of an issue or situation
bias means influence.
fairness is so subjective as to be a term that I don't much like in a discussion, as it normally ends up meaning "Fair is whatever benefits me" which is not always so.
Good bias is an influence that leads to sound judgements and good choices.
Bad bias is an influence that leads to poor judgements and poor choices.
bias is influence on thought by preconceived notions... and it is NOT necessarily a bad thing. It is a tool to be used to not have to stop and wholly analyze every choice, statement, text and/or situation on a moment by moment basis.
you are biased in your actions for personal safety, which is why you don't run down the middle of the freeway. Is that bad? Of course not.
You are biased in your actions for food and drink. I would imagine that you have your favorite dinner or soda/drink choices.... given a choice between your favorite and some untried thing, you'll gravitate towards your favorite.
Or perhaps you have a bias that new and different is better, so you'll forgo your favorite soda to try that new brand or new flavor.
Like I said, bias isn't bad, it is just a tool. Any tool can be used for good or bad.
You can try but there is no way you can be completely unbiased. Impossible, XD
"Bias is little more than a preconceived notion on something based on previous experience. Being biased is how you confront the idea of 'being so openminded that your brain falls out.'"
bias is MORE than a preconceived notion based on previous experience. people absorb bias from others. it isn't the fact that YOU necessarily burned your hand, it's that you saw someone else, someone told you, so on.
everyone has human contact. those that don't (say, a feral child in the isolated wilderness) will achieve bias based on their, and possibly the animal's experiences. For example the feral child sees a tree get hit with lightning. then that child might think the sky is angry.
it's simply human nature to have bias.
what would be interesting is....does artificial intelligence have bias? it was made by people, who have bias....interesting
