Why does this happen?

Many of you may be wondering about my vague title and what it is about: April Fool's!! :)
Well even though my title and my post so far have been of no purpose whatsoever, I feel the need to relate it to April Fool's. What this blog is actually about is April Fool's representations in other countries or cultures.
In England and France, today is also April Fool's day or All Fool's day and is very similar to ours because we brought over that tradition.

Some differences: In England, jokes are played only in the morning. It was considered bad luck to play a practical joke on someone after noon. Fools are called 'gobs' or 'gobby' and the victim of a joke is called a 'noodle.'

In France, they often tape pictures of fishes to each other's backs and cry "Poisson d'Avril" when the fish is discovered.

In Scotland, April Fool's Day is devoted to spoofs involving the buttocks and because of this it is called Taily Day. The butts of these jokes are called April 'Gowk', another name for the cuckoo bird. The origins of the "Kick Me" sign can be traced back to the Scottish observance.

In Rome, the holiday is known as Festival of Hilaria, celebrating the resurrection of the god Attis, is on March 25 and is also referred to as "Roman Laughing Day."

In Portugal, April Fool's Day falls on the Sunday and Monday before lent. In this celebration, many people throw flour at their friends. --This one I like the best--

In India, there is something similar called the Huli Festival and is practiced on March 31. In this one they go a little more severe by smearing paint on each other to celebrate Spring in addition to playing jokes.

In Spain and many hispanic countries, the equivalent of April Fool's is el Día de los Santos Inocentes, observed on Dec. 28. Our April Fools is very little known there which is why this is a pretty rough equivalent. They play many similar tricks except for when the prankster is to reveal the trick they cry out innocent one innocent one! This is because the person did not realize the trick and also in respect of the innocent ones who were killed without knowledge by Herod in Bethlehem. A little grotesque but that is their equivalent.
.
So remember that wherever you are in the world you could be become an April Fool. I've already played my first joke by taking the mail out of our mailbox before sending my mother to it. lol Just remember not to go to far and hurt someone especially since some people are totally jokers and push each other around while others can stand a joke or two but don't like to be teased and become really upset.
