Tonight
March 29, 2008 at 8 pm though 9pm is Earth Hour which is held by World Wildlife Fund (WWF). They are the ones with the cute logo of a panda bear that you might see at some department stores like Macy's, I think. Well this is a chance for everybody to participate in conserving energy and lowering the emissions of carbon. By participating in just this hour of turning off all your electricity will make a difference because it would be like turning off 48,000 cars off the roads. Just in that hour. A lot of largely populated cities all over the world are participating by turning off the lights of government buildings, tourist attractions and such. One country and absolutely supports and participates in this event is Australia, they have committed to this and so should you in your households.
I only came across this because of my friend, Robert, and because when I went shopping a few weeks ago, I saw the cute tee-shirts WWF sales. Now I am passing it on to you all. Sign up at EarthHour.org to show that you are being part of this global movement, because it sure is a global movement that will affect all of us.
One thing that sure has been bugging me about this is that one of my favorite kids channel is having their annual award show at the same time as Earth Hour. I am ashamed by them. Also, when they advertise it in the commercials they said something about their award show being bigger than this whole world or whatever they said. I wonder what a lot of the celebrities who are going to show up at the show have to say about theirselves. Sure shows how much they care more about their money than our own earth.
