Progress Is A Brighter Tomorrow.

I really only know one meaning of progress and that is to move forward but moving forward could mean anything. In this country I think progress should not be to spread the US's ideas all across the world. That's imperialism. I feel, rather, that we must make progress within our country before we start helping out others around the world. We should start with our economy since that is the thing that is most in danger in society. In this case progress would be to spend less on things such as the War in Iraq (we should just bring our troups home.). My government teacher taught us that in Bill Clinton's time he had increased taxes in order to secure our economy and it worked. And as American's, as soon as we had a surplus we decided we wanted tax cuts instead of paying off our nations debt.
Progress should also take place with our people. Our society is lazy and hateful. We don't really take any steps to do anything but rather sit back and let others like the government do it for us. We should take active rolls in how our society functions. We are also quite hateful. We don't like those who are different than us. We get angry with other countries that are different and get angry even at those inside our country. Racism is still rampant and we need to fix it. If we could only stop and realize that everyone is a person just like us then maybe we can learn to take their view point.
So far the United States has taken huge progressive steps. We've become our own nation, we've freed slaves and gave minorities rights. But we shouldn't stop there. We need to keep moving forward to bettering our future and never stop. Progress is a brighter tomorrow.
