Brand names obsessed

A lot of people don’t know it, but they are getting ripped off. It’s true.

Brands like Juicy Couture, Abercrombie and Fitch, Bebe, American Eagle and basically every “bro” brand ever invented, love to plaster their names on anything and everything. From purses and shirts to bathing suits and tracksuits.

Wearing clothing with head to toe labels on them makes you a walking billboard for that company and unless that is your intent, it’s not attractive (actually it’s never attractive).

Wearing expensive or popular brands is quick and easy fix to “looking” great. All you got to do is go in to the store, pick out an outfit that has the brands name plastered all over it and put it on. No thought, no style.

It’s like an optical illusion. You see the person walking down the hall. A Hollister shirt, Juicy Couture jeans, Chanel earrings, and a big purse with the Guess G’s on it (clearly the brand names are everywhere) and you think wow, that person is so trendy. They look they just walked off the pages of Vogue.

Well duh! There are so many advertisements in Vogue, they fit right in.

All that is great, but it’s like name dropping. One two many names and its obvious your trying way to hard to impress someone (if you have to do that, your trying to impress the wrong people anyways).

A little more style and a lot less label dropping.  A true fashionista can make anything look gorgeous. They know how to put together an outfit without relying on the designer’s name to justify that it’s stylish (think Janea Gomez Ross or Brittany Fowler to name two). That’s how you separate the future Chanel- mumu wearers (not that Chanel would ever make anything so distasteful) to the future Rachel Zoe’s.

Just because it’s made by the “it” brand of the moment doesn’t mean you should wear it (Point in case Juicy tracksuits. Cheap velour is never a good thing).

So let’s try to keep the brand names from taking over your outfit and stick with an I’m-so-stylish-even-the-people-who-don’t-know-how-much-this-cost-think-I’m-stylish, kind of outfit. Amen to that.

could not agree with you more....I am very fashionable, and when I tell people that I get my clothes from Wal-Mart, or Target, their mouths hang open....it's all about your personal style.

I agree with you there. I think that certain things could be splurged on, though, but not just because of the label. I don't like shirts that say American Eagle, Hollister, or Abercrombie and Fitch all over the front. Shirts that cost more than $20 seems ridiculous to me. I'm more of a purse gal anyway. Now, purses I will definatley splurge on. I really like Coach purses. But I don't just go for Coach purses just because of the label. I buy it because it's cute.
