My Sister's Keeper

I don't know if anyone has read the book My Sister's Keeper, but if not you definately should. It is by far my favorite book, but it is very controversial. It is about a early teenage girl who was born to help her ssterwho is dieing from leukemia. There is acatch...scientist search through her dads sperm and her mothers eggs in order to create a child that would be able to help there daughter. The parents said they did not have enough time to hope for the best. So once she was as young as a couple weeks old until her early teens she had already give over a dozen bone marrow transplants plus more. The enire book is based on when her family wants er to donate one o her kidneys to her sister. Instead she fights back and hires a lawyer. She is fighting for the rights of herown body. I was curious what you all think? Do you think it is unethical to have a child just to help another child? How about to create a genetically perfect child?
I believe that it is okay to hae another child in order to help your first child. Because whether or not you first child survives you will have your next child that grew up knowing she was helping her sister and if your first child does not survive you will have another daughter you will love for ever and always.
It is not okay to create a genetically perfect child. I am the type of person that believes everything happens for a reason. If you tried t have another baby and they were not a match, it was not meant to be.
I also believe that when the child who is helping their sibling gets old enough to understand what is happening, they hould have a say in whether or not they will donate there organs.

That is an excellent question! I too have read the book and also wondered about some of the stuff in there. What I want to thank you for is not giving away the ending which I always hate when people do that.

I feel that choosing what your son or daughter will be/characteristics is unfair to them because it takes away the individuality of them. Also it might cause them to believe that if their parents wouldn't have tampered they could have been a better person or might have had a different life. Also, your child should be the way they want to be. That way they can develop their own characteristics. If you cause them to be a certain way than you already know how your child is going to act. Another thing about this that reminds me is Ella Enchanted. What if someone wanted the perfect, calm, obedient child. Than that child will be destined that way and can't develop their own characteristics. All in all, we are all unique and it should stay that way.
