Of course, the presence of Iraqi democracy was important enough to start a war over, so we should assist them by respecting their authority right?
Iraq has expressed concern over the US run prison systems. The are asking for their prisoners to be handed over to the Iraqi government.
You remember when I wrote on Iraq about how 80% of Iraqi's didn't believe we would leave, even if their government asked us to?
Between Iraq asking to protect their citizens, and the UN asking to close Gitmo... I'd say the world is becoming rapidly disillusioned with American detention policy's.
We have a long way to go to earn back the respect of the international community, it would be a good way to start if we awknowleged their authority by closing Gitmo, and recognized Iraq as a sovereign state by returning their citizens who we have detained.
But do any of us really think the Bush administration cares about any of this? I hope I'm wrong and they surprise me by taking that step towards human rights. We have enough people here to support without paying to detain and torture other countries citizens.

Thanks for posting that information. I didn't realize they had asked for that. we will have to see what Bush does. He's a loner who doesn't care about soveriegn countries think.
For me...it's the 21st century form of imperialism
It's sickening isn't it.
