Why do people not know when to stop???

Well everyone. Today is day one of my time on here. The only thing that has really happened to me recently that I think would be a suitable topic to discuss with some of you is gossip. Gossip is a very nasty thing, I remember one time hearing a quote about it and I wish I could still remember that quote because I never realized just how true it was unitl now. Well I have this best friend of mine. I love her to death we have been through sooo much together. Well I'm in chori class and there is only about 10 people in it and none of them take singing seriously. I love to sing and so it unnerves me when they goof around and do nothing but discuss life and GOSSIP. Well, one day we were watching Oklahoma and I was laying on the floor watching the movie and hearing them talk but not really listening. That is not until I heard my best friends name. Then I was listening just as an automatic response. Well my friend when she was about three or four was raped for years by her dad and then by her older brother. What I heard that day has impacted my life and my friends life probebly forever, or at least a long while. She was telling other girls about how my friend was raped by her dad and that she WILLINGLY had sex with her older brother. I mean she was too little to even know any better and what is worse is that this girl was my friends best friend when her dad and brother did this to her and her brother tired to do it to the girl one night too. So therefore, she knows its a lie but she told them anyway and one girl was like "well I sit by her in seminar thats gross im not sitting by her anymore". That just made me want to cry because that is not something you tell someone. Well so I told my friend what she said about her and my friends mom called the girls mom and the girl lied to her mom and told her she never said anything like that. Well the next time we were in class all the girls involved were yelling at me about telling her and making a big deal out of nothing and how I shouldn't easdrop into their conversations and what they say is none of my business. Yes that is true to an extent but when my friends are involved and something that personal then I'm going to step up and say something. Well my friend told the principal and gave him a note I wrote her describing how they were yelling at me and what not and my friend said that everywhere she goes one of the girls tells someone. Like we had a state competition and my friend and one of the girls were there and the girl told everyone there about it. It's crazy! Gossip hurts!! My friend hasn't eaten or slept since then and it started last week. So when you start to talk about other people maybe you should stop and think about what you could be doing to their lives. Just because its not a big deal to you doesn't mean it isn't a huge deal to that person. Well I'm sorry that my first post was soo long. I just wanted to get that all out.
