What is wrong with the media? Enough with the Cheney Coverage!!

What is wrong with the American media? So what if the Vice-President shot his friend? The American media coverage has made me sick to my stomach. Just now, CNN's Situation Room spent 30 mins on Cheney's friendly fire. I don't understand, isn't there any better story to cover? I'm sure there is. it's sad that media today only cares about issues don't affect us that much such as the coverage of Michael Jackson's trial, the breakup of Nick and Jessica and now Dick Cheney? There are lot of stories out there that media should be covered such the genocide in Darfur. Does anybody know what happen there? I'm sure most of you don't. Why? Because the media is doing a poor job in spreading the awareness of it. It instead chooses to cover news that can help them bring more audience and of course more money from selling the advertising slot.

The coverage on Cheney should be stopped. He admitted to what he did.Why are the critics still questioning him? Let him go. Once again, there so many stories out there that the world needs to know. Today, media is a form of business. If a news broadcast decided to cover a story that doesn't attract to the viewers, major cooperations like WalMart, KFC, etc would not buy its advertising slot. Media coverage should not be dictated/influenced by the business industry/money. Sadly, it is...

The faults of American media has been the topic of many an article and book...The sad thing is that a lot of colleges training up the next generation of news producers just shrug and assign extra reading on how to package stories with as much sensation as possible.

Exactly. We are fed commerical and consumer news, and trivia, little entertaining and amusing distractions while people are being genocide in Rwanda, while another million Americans are being added this year to the 33 million already officially poor, we are saturated with a meaningless, useless, valueless little anecdote of amusement. The mainstream media sacrifices meaning for stupid, pointless distractions. This might get me flamed, but I am so sick of people being absorbed by the lives of celebrities (actor, politician, whatever). Their lives are just distractions for the masses, distractions, while, for example, numerous families go without indoor plumbing and heat in the Applachians and corporate crime runs amok.

...or Bryant Gumbel snidely waxing racist while his fans lap it all up and continue to adore him.

Yeah, I know... What can possibly be newsworthy about the VP shooting someone in the face and not doing anything about it for nearly 24 hours!?

Sarcasm aside, of course the MSM is beating a dead horse; it's what gets them the ratings. Remember, all those netwroks aren't there to inform you, but to entertain you. That's why O'Reilly, Matthews, Zahn, hell, even Olbermann are there. For entertainment purposes only.

That's why i rarely, if ever, watch the news. Since Katrina, I haven't watched much news, preferring to get my news from Google News, Kos, and ThinkProgress

There are a lot of stories out there that media should covered such the genocide in Darfur. Does anyone know what happen there?

Yeeah, it looks like the (vice) president there is shooting his people. And to the people of Darfur its an almost "normal" occurence.

So many important stories aren't covered by the news, which is why I don't usually watch it. But the VP shooting his friend is newsworthy. Especially when things people are saying about the story don't add up.

What doesn't add up?

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (CNN) -- Harry Whittington said Friday he was sorry for what Dick Cheney and his family has "had to go through" after the vice president shot him in a weekend hunting accident.

Is there a conspiracy?

Halliburton and Cheney and no-bid contracts. This is more newsworthy than the hunting accident, in my opinion, but do you see even an ounce of coverage on this compared to the hunting accident? No.
