The Body Snatchers

In the March 6th Newsweek there's an article about men who were looting corpses.  They were taking their bones and replacing them with plumbling pipes.  Then they would sell these various body parts to companies who provide hospitals with these body parts for surgical procedures.  These men would sew their gloves and aprons into the bodies so they wouldn't be caught.  They were hired to embalm the bodies; not to loot them.  And then the men were making up fake death certificates so the companies buying the parts wouldn't reject them if they were from a sickly or very elderly person.

This just disgusts me.  Can you imagine hiring someone to embalm your deceased relative and they go and take out this person's body parts with no permission?  And they get paid thousands of dollars.

Can you imagine being a patient who may have received a body part from a case like this?  It says the tissue was sterilized, but one man just acquired hepatitis A, possibly from bone fragments that had been placed in his neck.  Imagine getting a life threatening disease because these men just took body parts out of any dead corpse they could get their hands on.  I would be absolutely irate.

That's pretty sick. Some people will do some twisted stuff for money.

I guess that makes it a little more interesting to look at, though. To see it from the point of view of the cons. I mean, what would motivate a person to behave like that? Family? Illness? A total lack of functioning morals?

How weird.
