Russian Fieldworkers

Overheard a conversation in the hallways:

A: Yes?

B: So she wanted to give him a colored striped shirt but she couldn't.

A: Why not?

B: Because he was a Communist, and he couldn't wear stripes.

A: Really?

B: Yeah.  And here she thought he was just a Russian fieldworker or something.

No idea the actual subject, but they there's more to Russia than I thought, I guess, as the event seemed to have just occurred recently.  This is probably the only cultural phenomena mentioned all day.  I'm pretty sure, though, that someone needs to get there story straight.

I need to do some research.  Just maybe I'll learn something about Communist Russia after all.

Russia is no longer communist.

Of course Russia is no longer Communist. That's the reason it was so odd.

Sorry; it seemed as if there was an implication that you were referring to Russia as still a communist nation. :) The CCCP disbanded quite a while ago, so I was cranky. :P

There is quite a bit of interesting information on Russia. I recommend taking a Russian History class, or the language. It's all very amusing. Most of the great leaders were jailed and exiled numerous times. :P However, it's my personal belief that they're all so cranky because it's just so bloody cold over there.

Cold? Are you kidding me? Have you ever been to Russia? We have seasons there as much as America does. Of course the winter season is the colder than any other season there, especially in Siberia or anything close to the North Pole.

Don't get your panties in a wad, it's just a stereotypical joke.

Yes, Russia seems to have it all, and actually, I do want to learn Russian, but time is required for that...

Also, that same idea that Russian's are so cranky because of the coldness is a very viable theory. I've seen it occur to many people in cold nations- Russia, Finland, Sweden, etc. All the sun combined with the snow, however, does seem to mellow out Scandinavia.

Now, back to Russia. Oh, I would agree. Russia is very amusing indeed.

Communism's specter will haunt Russia fora while.
