I have heard much talk about homosexuals being the creators of their own misery. "It is sinful," as many would say, "and so they are to deal with the discrimination they face as a consequence." But who are we to judge if what they are doing is wrong, to what degree it is wrong, and thus give ourselves the power to charge them with "equal" consequences?
More than all these points, is the arguement that is their choice to be gay. Though I am sure there are some out there that claim to be gay for the attention, looking at the grand scheme of things these people did not choose. No one ever came up to them and asked for their preferences, as no one did for the rest of us either. It would not be a wise choice regardless, considering the risks of crime, discrimination, and dirty looks that go along with it. Would a person wish this upon themselves? I doubt it. There have been gay people throughout the centuries when it was even more taboo then today to admit to such, and thus it was swept under the rug. Yet, as the world changes, these issues may seem to be new as they surface, but are truly not unique.
Regardless of what anyone believes, the truth is that gays and lesbians are what they are, and certainly not by choice. Thus, even if we are to disagree with their lifestyles, should accept them as they are.

I find the "choice" remark funny. How can one chose to be gay? to be discriminated?
I don't have a problem with gays or lesbians if the stay out of people's faces. I live in a rednecked town and there are about 12 lesbians that go to a bar we go to and 3 or 4 gay men. They are all friendly and don't push themselves or their ideas on anyone and they are well tolerated and liked.
There are another group of arrogant, militant, gays looking for preferences and I dislike them.
My wife is a supervisor over one who is the most antagonistic person she's ever met - he never fails to let everyone know he is gay and extra special. He doesn't do his work, always wants to take off early and is sullen and resentful.
He is typical of several other gays we've known over the years.
While we might be tolerant of gays - we must still recognize that, while they don't have a choice, they are still not normal.
MTV and all the networks repeated puts gays in every show, to make us think they are the normal ones and we are not.
This is trash, and can only contribute to anti-gay feelings.
