Change the Music Industry

What's really driving the music industry down? Is it Napster, bitTorrents, free downloading? The cost of CDs?

How come the media hasn't brought the attention to the VERY CORE REASON to this problem? CRAPPY MUSIC.

Granted, I like a few songs on the radio. I like listening to mainstream musicians, yes, even Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Jay-Z, etc. But my experiences with getting albums and finding out that most of the music isn't my liking jades everything, I figure that these mainstream artists are really in it for the money. How do I know their album is as good as the single? I don't know, especially when money's behind these promotions.

I also know that artists want money, as any one with a job wants. But have we lost the true purpose of music? To create something that moves the soul, something that makes you laugh, something that makes you dance? This generation - We - have been pushed into the world of MTV, commercials, cell phones, the Internet, and many more. We KNOW what the corporations want. Money. And we're not stupid.

I cannot wait until we get producers, managers, corporate presidents whose purpose again is to not to make money by marketing good looking people, the latest trends, etc... but just straight out good music.

As responsible consumers, it's also our duty to explore different kinds of music. Look past the mainstream music - listen to your local bands, support local artists. And for those who only cling onto unknown bands/musicians to gain trend points (even if you're trying to not claim trendiness) look at what the mainstream musicians are offering. Yes they're in it for the money and yes they HAVE it, but their music can't be all that bad. A note for everyone:

Listen to EVERYTHING. Perhaps you'll find your new favorite songs on the radio or on an internet indie radio. Who knows?

And to get the corporations to stop selling us crap, we should stop buying it. Tell your radio stations who you want to hear, what you think about some songs, etc. They'll listen because you're the consumer. You do have the power.

Agreed!

I think people have gotten the idea that music industry is one quick way of making money, or at least i think so, as many rap songs talked about how rich the artists are. Then everyone starts to write music...with their desire for money, instead of their passion. Or maybe they do, but don't sound like it. *shrug*

Once the corporations find the formula for $$$, they multiply it until we get sick of it. For rap, it's the money and the ho's (I hate to generalize). For rock, it's love songs and long hair. For everything else, hold onto what you have!

Musicians work hard, and you shouldn't insult them like that. The business is the problem.

Every musician works hard. Some work harder than others and don't produce music that's as good as another musician. Such is life. All I'm saying is that corporations should stop putting out music for MONEY. Instead they should put out music for the sake of good music, not the revenue.

How about going real origenial back to when Reliant K wasnt mainstream? know where they came from? I think the biggest place they anlong with many other christion bands get there starte with RadioU.com (Locally for me 88.7 on the fm) Try listing to them for a little bit (if your lucky, your in a city where they broadcast, take the radio U challenge, listn to them for a week and tell me you dont feel better about yourself) This station works off of nothing but listner support! Talk about putting the music industry into a bind, dont listn to them, they cant sell comercials, they cant sell crappy bands!

which is why i'm going to major in songwriting and producing when i get to college. i want to do this because i really am a music enthusiast, and it hurts to see what the music industry is coming to these days. and it's not from a lack of good artists or creativity, because there is plenty of both out there. we just need to show these major money-making record labels that this isn't what a lot of people want.

we shouldn't blame this on mainstream music, because mainstream music is whatever is extremely popular. it doesn't necessarily have to be crappy music. i think that if we do tell the radio stations what we want to hear and stop buying into the stuff that's on now, we can actually help change this, and mainstream music can actually be good music.

I've actually called in to radio shows and complained about the overplaying of shallow music
