Our fundamental principles are based on democracy here in the United States Of America. However it seems that we really don't even know the real defination of democracy. Every day we spend millions if not billions of dollars to spread democracy accros the glope, but we are using the word "democracy" to punish people who we want to be punished. For instance, the recent democratic election that were held in palestince was a legitimate democratic election where people have spoken on their own but we let them down. Today, we are punishing the palestine people because they were able to choose their leaders based on democratic principles. Shame on you America and the Western World. Why are we calling ourselves pro-democracy when we don't even accept a democratic elections?

Then I suppose it's a good thing we live in a republic. The word democracy is completely misused 98% of the time (in my humble opinion). A democracy is nothing but mob rule, which is a bad idea.
