Growing Up!

Turning 16 is great! You have a license you can drive wherever you want but on top of all this you get more responsibility. High School students who have a license and drive either their own car or their parent’s car are obligated to contribute to help for gas. This means that you have to get a job to pay for gas or bills.

Getting that very first job is a pain it seems that no one wants to hire you. Plus the economy it is harder to get a job know than back then. The job that you do end up getting seems like the worst job. Plus you can’t work too much or too late because you are still in school and you have to keep your grades up.

With less money, your whole pay check is either spent on gas or bills with nothing left over for you to actually spend on wants. After turning 16 you have two more years to actually just do whatever and be a teenager before you have to go to college.
With gas prices it seems no one can enjoy their teenager years because of the way the economy is turning out to be.

Well welcome to the new generation of turning 16 and beyond. Like you said the economy is bad. I blame a certain someone but I will not mention their name. Gas is going up, unemployment is rising, taxes are becoming outrageous. Well hang in there. Hopefully after the so - called "recession that we are not going thru" things will get back on track.

I do not really think it is all that new. I remember when a local gas station went out of buisness because prices went over a dollar and the economy was facing a depression. I also remember the fuss when the price went over two dollars and we all thought we could find away to bring down the price and people were losing their homes and high schoolers had to worry about grades and paying their own way.

We need to stop complainign and come up with a new solution, a renewable energy source. I am glad that young people can notice the pain now because they will be the ones to benefit the change that could be made and are the ones that can fuel the change.

I say ride the bike and save you cash because this will be the last time period in your life for a long while that you will have things for yourself.

I completely agree with the above.

I haven't driven a car regularly in almost a year and a half. I bike everywhere, and if the weather sucks I take public transportation. Of course, that is all pretty easy for me because I live in a city in Japan. However, if more people started making an effort to find alternatives to driving, cities everywhere would have to start accommodating.

Being free of a gas-guzzler has been a liberating experience. Give it a try!
