Barack Obama

Obama has several bits in the news today. One of them is the fundraising tactice of donating 5 dollars or more which earns a chance to go to the convention. Obama considers it not gambling but some in the state government do.
"The head of the Minnesota Gambling Control Board said that a solicitation for funds on the national website of the Barack Obama presidential campaign may constitute a raffle, which is a violation of Minnesota gambling laws."
Obama campaign disagrees with this on several fronts. It makes you wonder about everything. Moveon.org is also on the attack.
"Our partners at ColorOfChange.org will hold a major event next week to deliver boxes and boxes of petition signatures to FOX's headquarters. If we can deliver half-a-million signatures, other media outlets will have a powerful story to report—and FOX's advertisers will get the hint that it's not a good idea to associate their products with FOX's hate-speech." Moveon.org attacks fox for their opinions on obama. The time is getting interesting folks. I will ad to this blog later
Obama has flipped flopped again on FISA. There are reports now that he is siding with what currently passed in congress. He says that some of FISA bill is needed for protection but he may reserve the right to review it later if he becomes president. Last time I saw so many flips and flops was while watching a gymnastic competition. I am seriously considering voting for Mc Cain now. Some people criticize obama for trying to be all things to all people.

Raffles are HUGE here in Minnesota. Businesses, schools, and all kinds of organizations have raffles as fundraisers. It shocks me to hear that they are a violation of Minnesota gambling laws. Especially when horse betting, poker, lottery tickets, bingo, and pull tabs are all legal. I'll have to look into that. Wouldn't want to violate the law just to help a school earn money for new technology.

It seems like an honest mistake to me. I wouldn't have thought that something like that would be illegal.

Also, quite frankly, it's refreshing to see a candidate who's directing his fundraising efforts toward individuals rather than big business.

As far as Fox's attacks go, have you actually researched what they were attacking or, more specifically, who? They were going against Obama's wife, Michelle, using racist terms like calling her his "Baby Mama." (1) They've also called a fist-bump between Michelle and Barack and "terrorist fist jab" (2), smearing Obama left and right, and generally distorting the truth (3) (4).

These aren't "opinions" that moveon.org and MANY other groups are protesting against, they're out and out lies.

So that makes it right for a news organization that calls itself "Fair and Balanced" to spread lies disparaging Obama's character and the character of his family? How is that even the same thing?

If they were simply exposing "Obama's lies" with provable, true facts, then they certainly have every right to do so. More than that, they have a responsibility as a news organization to do so. But turning to mud-slinging and racist remarks is NOT OK.

McCain has used the exact same strategy...twice, in fact. He's raffled tickets to ride on the straight talk express twice.

It's a fairly common phenomena. Usually, after winning the candidacy both the democratic and Republican candidate move towards the middle.

As for voting for McCain because of Obama's perceived indecisiveness, that's kind of strange. The statement implied that you were initially planning on voting Obama, which leads me to imagine that you have more liberal views or agree with certain major points he makes. Why would you rather vote for someone who consistently voted in opposition to those views over someone who occasionally did?
