Ironic Earth Day

So, this past Saturday was Earth Day, the one day where people drive as little as possible to , you know, "save the earth."  In the past years that my family & I have gone, there were like maybe one or two cars at the park.  However, this year, there were as many cars at the park as there are down town every year (that's a lot of cars).  I mean, the one day a year that people are supposed to care about the earth, they still drive their exhaust spewing care.  But I think the saddest  part is that most of the people there live within the community and could walk to the park in no time.  It's just so ironic.

It really is ironic, isn't it? I think the biggest problem is just the overall mindset of Americans in general. Without meaning to sound like a pessimist too badly, our culture has evolved into one that wants to get rich, lose weight, cure diseases, and fix basically every other problem, but with little or no effort. We want to decrease our national debt, but we're unwilling to forfeit our tax cuts. We want to lose weight, but we're unwilling to exercise and eat healthy foods. My point is that we're quick to support any cause that seems worthy and beneficial to us (who really wants to see the world destroyed because we failed to take care of the environment) but we don't really want to take action to fix it. It seems easy enough to attend an Earth Day rally, yet most people are unwilling to actually do anything beneficial. Standing in a park on Earth Day will not solve the problem. It's going to take a little more effort than that, and to be honest, not many people are willing to expend that effort.

That's exactly how I feel. I mean, there are these grouchy old ladies that live down the street from me & they started an organization to keep the neighborhood clean. Yet, they don't bother to clean-up their own yard. I mean, everyone is all hopped up on themselves because they're going to go out and buy a hybrid car. That's not going to slove the problem faster. They need to get their lazy butts out of the car and start walking!

I understand where you're coming from, but maybe a lot of people don't even know about this "Earth Day". I say that, because I really never heard of it until Friday.

But just like holidays, why give it your all just on 1 day of the year, how about trying to drive the least as possible 365...Or even use electrical devices, gas, water, etc. ?

We have one day for valentines, fathers, and mothers....Why don't we love our lovers, our fathers, and also our mothers, every day...not just one day. And well, the planet should be the same.

Hey, at least people are coming out to see what it's all about. Maybe they are from suburbs that don't celebrate Earth Day and have no choice but to drive. perhaps some are handicapped. We can't judge others for their actions without knowing their pas.t
