Florida- a travel destination?

Florida. That oh so lovely state. You know the one. With the alleged sunshine, tropical weather, and beautiful beaches. It’s a great vacation spot… if you’re a mosquito.

I spent two weeks of my summer vacation in
Fort
Mires and
Key West (P.S. Key west is exempt from anything I say). After bring amped to go by all my friends (they know nothing), I was extremely disappointed.

I will gibe them the sunshine and the tropical weather, with a 100 degree temperature everyday and hard to breath, but the beautiful beaches, no way.  Who ever came up with that one obviously had a couple too many pina coladas.

The water was the most disgusting mixture of blood red, orange and purple (sixth nicest beach in the nation, uh huh lady), I couldn’t even go in. When you turn down jet skiing because of the water, something is seriously wrong.

Its not even how unpleasant
Florida was, it was how you have to perpetually fear for your life. On land, there are gangsta-like people ( big, scary, look like there packing), in the ocean- crocodiles and sharks, in fresh water- alligators, at night- bloodthirsty mosquitoes and these tiny mosquitoes commonly known as No-see-ums…use your imagination., and the drivers.

I don’t know if it’s the humity or because you get board out of your mind  looking at marshes after the first 10 minutes, but they have a lot of accidents. It seemed like every couple of feet there were signs that showed where someone had gotten into an accident (and I thought getting out of the parking lot a lunch was dangerous).

Finally, to top off the
Florida splendor there are (drum roll) hurricanes. Yay!

Florida was not my cup of tea ( I don’t even like tea) and I for one will never be going back there again (remember
Key West isn’t included. We should just make it a completely different state) unless bribed again by the prospect of hundreds of hockey boys.

I don’t understand how it became a vacation destination in the first place (higher your standards people), or the better question: who in their right minds would live there. From my short but very informative time in
Florida, I think I can safely say they are all crazy.

So here’s a tip from me to you: when faced with the prospect of going to
Florida flee to
Mexico or make-out with the kid with mono (trust me, I’m a professional).

Uh, It's Ft. Myers...you spelled it wrong. I used to live there. I was actually born there. I have lived in FL my whole life...so, vacationing here seems weird to me...unless if it's like in the Keys or Miami...I could possibly see those places as vacation. Now that I live near Orlando, it's hard to consider that as a vacationing place. And I lived it West Palm before too...so, that's more like a very buzy crazy trip to visit my friends than a vacation to relax and get away from it all. And, btw I don't really appreciate your narrow-minded stereotyping of Floridians. You make Florida sound like a hell hole. I don't think you really know what you are talking about. You are basing your judgements of an entire state on one little vacation. And, I don't know what beaches you went to, but obviously the wrong ones. There really are some beautiful beaches down here, you just didn't go to the right beaches. I've been too tons of beaches in Florida, but never one that disgusting. Maybe that's cuz we Floridians know which beaches are the most beautiful! ; ) I've lived in different places in the state and visited others, and never ever seen such a disgusting beach... Now, I'll tell you who the crazy people are...the tourists (not to mention some of the ppl that come down here to retire)!?!?! DUH! Not that all of the tourists are crazy, but why do you think Orlando is the angriest city in the US? huh, huh? (not to mention that a lot of tourists dress really wierd and are so obviously not from around here). Cuz we've got all them tourists goin to Disney and all the other attractions. Florida really isn't such a bad place to live. We've got some great beaches, the House of Blues, and some other cool things to do and places to see. We've got urban, suburban, and rural areas. Yes, FL is mostly flat, below sea level, and full of those boring palm trees...but most tourists are facinated by the palm trees. Living here, btw, is TOTALLY DIFFERENT than visiting. Don't let one bad experience sour you on the whole state. (No offense, btw...sorry if any of that offended you, that was not my intention). I don't mind if ppl don't come down here to visit...then things wouldn't be so crazy. The only down side to that would be on the economy.

I'm sorry if i offended you, but it is my opinion. I live in southern orange county, which is I've come to realize after traveling around, is one of the greatest places in the world. so that when I go to other places, there disapointing. I travled all around Florida, but I'll admit I didnt vist every place in the state. the crazy people i'm talking about weren't tourists though, they were people who lived and worked there, I know about tourists. I spend every day of the summer at Laguna beach... those crazy french. anyways, I'm just advising people that Florida isn't the sunshiny, travel destination it's believed to be.

Why people like me would consider Florida a vacation spot is because in Winter, it's a place where people would want to escape the cold temperatures, snow, and gloomy, mostly cloudy skies for a while.
